grabbed a loose Goldeneye N64 cart for £3, the shop had other N64 loose carts but they were all £30 or more

That’s not a million miles off what MK64 goes for but you can get the other two for £15 each if you know where to look.

Yeah id seen all of them cheaper elsewhere, was kind of shocked they only wanted £3 for GoldenEye sure its not worth loads but when your asking £30 for the other stuff £3 is a bit of a low ball last time I saw it in cex it was about £7, I was expecting them to say £10 and if they had then yeah they'd be told to jog on.

there was some 25p Wii stuff but the discs had been scratched across the floor so bad theyd be useless as anything but coasters luckily the PS3 discs are all clean as anything.

there was some 25p Wii stuff but the discs had been scratched across the floor so bad theyd be useless as anything but coasters luckily the PS3 discs are all clean as anything.

It's always baffled me how discs get so badly scratched, surely you just put the discs from box to console then back again so how do they get so badly damaged?

Some/most people don't treat them that well and leave them lying around for anything to happen to them. Not to mention kids who don't know any better.

its a crying shame when its a good game, not so bad when you see scratched up shovelware. Somewere I have a Crash racing ps1 loose disc I paid 30p for scratched to hell, I keep meaning to take it and have it resurfaced to see if it works after.

Got an OG PlayStation off eBay for £5 (+ £4 postage) which came yesterday. Only ever had the PSone myself, so getting the classic grey rectangle is welcome. It's in great condition and appears to be working perfectly.

Only downside to it is that it's one of the later 900x models which don't have the serial port at the back. Means I can't modify it with an SD card loader and I'm stuck with Discs.

On the plus side it means that the drive itself should be in better condition than an older model (In theory, lol).

Ultimately I don't really intend to play too much on it anyway. I'm going to be softmodding my PS2 shortly which will allow me to load games off a Hard Drive, so worst case I can still run the games through that. I can always try and pick up an earlier model PS1 if I need one later.

It also looked surprisingly nice through the composite cable on my CRT. It's a mostly clean image with less of the blurring and interference that you usually see with it.

I'll still be getting a RAD2X for it (And the PS2) at some point, but it's not horrendous as it stands.

I quite liked it myself. I was impressed that it wasn't too much bigger than a portable CD player.

I got it the day it came out.

My flatmates had sold me on PS with MGS and Final Fantasy so I decided I wanted one and it happened to be coming out at that time.
Got it with FF8, Marvel Vs Capcom and Tenchu 2. Great wee machine.

Yeah the size shrink was impressive for the time, especially as late generation console redesigns weren't as common a thing back then.

In hindsight, the only thing I wish Sony had done with the original PlayStation is release it in different colours. I always liked the Yaroze black edition, and I've also seen a very rare dark blue one, and they look great.

As PlayStation Power magazine revealed once, it was extremely easy on the original model to play imported discs. Sony made it harder with later editions. I think with one you had to stop the disc while it was actually spinning.

I liked the PSone version simply because Sony added a load of rather snazzy (for the time!) Windows Media Player graphics when you played music CDs. They also made some minor graphical adjustments to the menu screens (basically the same template as on the original but given a coat of paint).

I didn't like the OS re-design for the PSone either! Much preferred the more brutalist, utilitarian design of the original

Some of the guff people used to try and trade in when I worked in games retail was appalling. Discs scratched to hell, broken boxes, filthy consoles. Even consoles that reeked of weed, I kid you not.

Sadly it was more common than not.

I remember when I worked in gamestation (15 years ago ) we got a copy of Stubbs the Zombie for xbox. When opening the box and trying to take the disc out to inspect it for scratches etc, when I pulled the disc out I was greeted with what can only be described as vomit I lifted the disc up and the vomit came with it whilst still attached to the box. I looked at the guy trading it in who had clearly used drugs at some point in his life and he stared laughing.

I once bought a 2nd hand Master System game (Alien Syndrome) from a market stall which looked like someone had vomited on the manual, never dared touching it to throw it away so it stayed in the little clips that held it in the box for nearly 20 years
