Majora was a Gold Cart over here.

Could be a 2nd copy of Turok 2 just to screw with us.

I do like the different colours for the carts. It's one of the reasons I love the Famicom as every cart is a different shade.

My N64 collection is coming along nicely :D

Oh, boy, NN69... what a marvelous shot! I've looked at some of those cart stickers in the past and they are so handy for presenting cart collections.

If my eyes and brain are working together correctly, it seems that you have... [mad counting skillz in progress]... 113 carts! Fantastic effort, dude; it really is a lovely set. They're all lined up and ready for action! Do you get to play them much?

I can see two black carts. I think one is Turok 2... but I can't make out what the other one is?

Hi Jawa, I think it's the bookend of the shelf you are seeing, they are black and white alternate so it looks like black carts in the middle, I do have a few more that I've not labeled up yet, I made mine myself using sticky back paper and basic photo editor.

I do fire up the N64 sometimes, it's connected to a crt TV for the authentic experience, I'll put on another pic when I get chance. Just wish I had more free time to play more of them.

I'm not sure, CD... I don't think the PAL versiosn were black carts...

We need NN69 to confirm this pressing issue!

It is a gold cart I think, just in shadow. Looks like MM from the sticker. Certainly the one in the bottom right I’m looking at.

Ah! I think you're spot-on, Cora... I'm not the best with colours, but I believe I do spy a flash of gold there!

Hey, that's creative, NN! It'd be good to see a close-up photo or two of them if you get the chance. You have a terrific range of titles there.

Jawa that is an absolutely outstanding haul of gear. No complaints about the carpet, either.

I'd missed seeing jawa's collection!

A triumphant awakening! I have two copies of this original Game Boy Zelda title and a copy of the enhanced GBC version. The first two are slightly different in that one is marked as being distributed by THE Games and the other by Nintendo UK.

This is interesting! I believe later prints of the original game fixed the famous "screen warp" glitch - I wonder if this difference is reflected in the distribution change?

jawa4 wrote:...On a different line, the talk about box variations has reminded me about some different box designs on the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time. I plan on sharing a pic or two later; many folk may be massively bored by it but for collectors it could be interesting!

Image

Ocarina! The legendary Ocarina! It arrived on the 3DS back in 2011 and enabled the classic N64 title to be enjoyed all over again.

However, you may not have known about the box variations that exist. Let me talk through these below... and please do shout if you're aware of any others that are available!

Image

^^^ The story begins back in the spring of 2011 when Nintendo provided GAME (here in the UK) with some special pre-order cases to be given to customers who pre-ordered the game. The case was a sealed, standard 3DS case that contained gold artwork and a small foldout poster. It was pretty popular as the artwork was lovely and it presented a neat collectible item.

Image

^^^ The reverse of the case contained some screenshots and "not to be sold separately" text. Note that no age rating is shown.

Image

^^^ In this shot we can see the fold-up poster that was sealed within the pre-order case.

Image

^^^ On June 11 2011 the game launched and arrived in the standard, colourful artwork case that most folk will be familiar with. The cover includes a "12" age rating.

Image

^^^ The rear of the case contained different screenshots and layout to that of the pre-order variant.

Image

^^^ The idea was that purchasers could place their cart into the pre-ordered gold case if they wanted to; creating a sought-after version.

Image

^^^ The standard version shows plain white inside the case...

Image

^^^ ...but the pre-order case contains secret coloured rupees that shine through!

Image

^^^ That's not the end of the story, though! There is another variant; one that could only be obtained by purchasing the lovely special edition Zelda 25th Anniversary 3DS console that Nintendo released. "It looks the same, jawa!" I hear you exclaim. But... look closely. A "12" age rating is printed on the cover of this gold version

Image

^^^ ...and, looking at the back, the screens and layout match that of the standard edition rather than the earlier pre-order version. It's still not quite the same even as the standard version, though; note the gold colour background rather than the standard version's light brown background. There is a "not to be sold separately sticker" but this is different to the text printed on the back of the pre-order case. I also believe that this version is plain white on the inside of the case rather than showing the colourful rupees as with the pre-order case. I haven't opened it to confirm, though!

Image

^^^ In this shot we have the reverse of the pre-order gold case (left) and the reverse of the Zelda 3DS console gold pack-in version.

Image

^^^ Here's all four versions of the case; clockwise from top-left we have the standard retail case, the pre-order case, the Zelda 3DS console version case and the pre-order case (opened).

Image

^^^ ...and here we can see the reverse of the cases!

Image

^^^ Wow! What a journey through the story of a game case. I feel sure that many folk will be very sleepy now... but hopefully a few collectors will have enjoyed this walk.

And... "jawa! That's not the full story!" I hear you cry. Of course, Nintendo has also released a "Nintendo Selects" (red border) version of the game for 3DS. I don't have a copy of that version ( I think I probably have enough at this point...) but I believe it is the same as the standard release in having a plain white interior.

Lets continue to enjoy Ocarina! And maybe I'll stop looking at the cases and exit Hyrule Field at some point, of course.

Crazily enough you've got around 22 games I don't have, and a few *really* impressive ones if this is a PAL collection - Blues Brothers, Kirby 64, Hercules and especially San Francisco Rush 2049 are incredible spots.

Yep, no doubts, NN69, as Cora says... that really is a nice collection; packed with a wide range of titles.

I'm equally impressed by what I believe is an Acorn Electron just underneath your screen! Haven't seen one of those in use for a while :-) .

Top marks, it is indeed an Acorn electron, that's were it all started way back when, have loads of games for that but they are too untidy to put on show. Very nice Zelda collection you have, I've been wanting to do a Zelda shrine for a while but no way I could top that.

Thanks Corazon, it is a PAL collection, I had to start putting the brakes on the collection though, it was drawing in more and more funds and alot of games left are either annual sports games or far too expensive, I'm looking at you StarCraft 64 :capnscotty:

I am always disappointed when there isn't an inside print for a PS4 or 3DS game.

Also the way GameCube disks were printed were neat, using a halftone and only one or two colours.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Grabbed a few bits from a shop that's stoping doing retro today
I got Madden NFL 06 for GameCube complete for £2
and then a bundle of 3 complete psp games for £6 killzone liberation, puyo pop fever, and Warhammer 40000 squad command.

Shame to see any place shut or move out of the retro market.
