Banjo Kazooie looks great, but I found it was really poor in the control department, where Mario 64 has it soundly beaten.

Was there anything specifically about the controls that offended you, or just that they weren't as simple as Mario?

That's bait.

They didn't offend me, I just found them overly heavy and not very responsive.

N64 Top 10, in no order:

Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask
Super Mario 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Banjo-Kazooie
Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Lylat Wars
F-Zero X

None of them in danger of dropping out either.

Perhaps that could be attributed to Banjo and Kazooie having a greater variety of abilities/moves?

I remember occasionally getting some button combos wrong, i.e. using the talon trot instead of the wonderwing, but aside from that I didn't experience any problems.

That said, as I've said several times on here, I wasn't a fan of SM64 when I first played it in 2005, but I'm hoping I'll get the opportunity to give it another chance on the Switch if they release a remaster as is heavily rumoured.

To be fair, playing it in 2005 for the first time would be a very different experience to playing it in 1997 for the first time.

That's a close one. Perfect Dark is objectively the better game but Goldeneye had so many childhood multiplayer memories for me I'd have to go for that.

BK

I don't think I've ever been more hyped for a game and they really delivered. For me, I found the levels much more interesting than Mario's.

Does anyone know if Parappa The Rapper 2 on PS4 is as good as the PS2 version? It’s currently £3.99 on PSN.

Would be nice to start replacing more PS2 games with PS4 alternatives, especially as they’ll (presumably) be playable on PS5 too. In some cases though they’ve done a poor job (Jak and Daxter is better on PS3 than it is on PS4 for example) whereas others are vastly superior on current gen (Shadow of the Colossus, Rez).

Is this also a first playthrough?

Just further to this, I was thinking about which games would make up my top ten N64 games (unordered).

Perfect Dark
Ocarina of Time
Donkey Kong 64
Banjo-Kazooie
Diddy Kong Racing
Pokemon Stadium
F-Zero X
Goldeneye
Mario Party 2
Mario Tennis

Half of those were developed by Rare. A proper golden period for a developer if there ever was one.

It's not a first playthrough for Banjo although it's probably only my second playthrough. I've never played Tooie so I might give that a go next. Nor Conker's. It's a shame they both came out quite late. I played to about halfway through of DK64 last year so I don't know that I can be bothered to start it all again for a while yet.
I've also just remembered I've not played Jet Force Gemini! These other games might not be as good as those above but that's an amazing output

Jet Force Gemini must've been great at the time but coming to it earlier this year I found it to be very hard to get into.

It has not aged well, and was perhaps a victim of its own ambition at times.

Definitely. Just watching a review of it highlights this.
