There's always an appeal.

Chauvin's appeals won't go anywhere.

Watching it. Hearing the testimony of Floyd's family was heart wrenching. Hearing Chauvin's mother testify is making me very angry, she shouldn't be defending him.

His lawyer saying he wasn’t even meant to be working that day, but volunteered to help out. Is that meant to somehow make it better?

"No, no, you don't understand! He wasn't even supposed to be there! He was just volunteering to murder a man!"

His mother sounds like she's as soulless a ghoul as him.

22 years and 6 months in prison, lifetime firearm weapons ban, must register as a predatory offender I think?

22 page memorandum to accompany the sentencing.

G'bye, murderer.

The sentence is 22.5 years but he'll be serving 15 CNN says.

I'm sorry, 15? How'd they calculate that? The 150-odd days already served counts against the sentence but where is that 9 year bullshit? In the memorandum?

Edit: You sure that's right? WaPo saying the previous longest sentence for a police officer convicted of murder was 15 years.

It's what CNN just said. I think it's because no-one serves the full sentence they're given unless they behave badly in jail.

Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up.

Shouldn't be allowed to appeal for parole at all tbh, he should be there for the entire duration of the sentence.

There are conflicting reports on this all over the shop so don't take what I'm saying for certain but that's my understanding.

For me, 22 years lets him out at 67. Potentially gets to live out another 30 years of life.

Seems lenient imo.

Are we considering that a short sentence? For any murderer I would suggest being allowed to apply for parole after 15 years is reasonable. We don't need to have laws based on an eye for an eye.

It's a pretty light sentence in comparison to these:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/richard-de ... -31-years/

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/08/08/us/m ... index.html

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 47812.html

For sure, those are utterly ridiculous sentences.

A former charge of mine got 20 years in january for Murder. He'll serve all of that. Don't know what the statutary figure is in the states. It's 15 years here but the judge has the right to add additional years based on the severity of the offence and other circumstances. I had a patient who was guilty of murder and he got life. Ended up serving 53 years as his condition affected his ability to appeal properly.

As if a cop is going to survive that long in jail. He'll be shanked within a year.
