Genuine question, I don't understand how they distinguish between the two, because in the UK its murder or manslaughter, I don't think you can be found guilty of both.

Yea that puzzled me too, I don’t know how the same death can be both manslaughter and murder.

Yup.

The right wing grifters saying police officers may as well quit their jobs now aren't even hiding what they think the police force should be for.

Just wait for the appeals.

There's always an appeal.

The “not a fair trial” argument is utterly futile when the reason that everyone and their dog knows about the case is because of how utterly abhorrent the act was. strawberry float him.

And Aaron, I’ve no idea tbh... it was a reporter on CNN who said that last night but there are so many conflicting things re minimum terms.

They refused to release the body cam? And she thinks that evidence would have helped Derek Chauvin? :fp:

So now the right don't believe the justice system works?

The guy will be able to appeal until the end of time. If it's found there wasn't a fair trial, he will get a retrial on appeal. Otherwise, the only response they should have to the verdict at the moment is that justice has been served.

I happen to think it was the right verdict. I think the absolute best Chauvin will get on appeal is the second degree murder charge overturned, which I wouldn't agree with, but he will still spend pretty much the rest of his life in jail.

Can the title be updated to “the murder of George Floyd” to better reflect the facts now that the verdict has been passed.

The blue wall of silence kicked in hard from the start.

If there wasn’t that video there would be a very different outcome today

This is why the police (both in the US and here) becoming absolutely obsessed with stopping people from filming their activities on the street during instances like this and the recent protests is such a frightening prospect.

They are utterly petrified of this kind of evidence being on hand to hold them to account.

The right believe police officers should be able to kill black people.

It's that simple.

From Reddit

[2020 MN Statute 609.19, Subdivision 2, Clause 1](https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.19): Chauvin was accused/convicted of causing Floyd's death while committing felony assault, constituting 2nd-degree murder in MN. Likewise, [3rd-degree murder](https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.195) in MN is stipulated when death follows "an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life".

[2020 MN Statute 609.205, Clause 1](https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/609.205): Chauvin was accused/convicted of causing Floyd's death via culpable negligence -- "creating an unreasonable risk, and consciously [taking] chances causing death or great bodily harm to another", constituting 2nd-degree manslaughter in MN.

Nothing says that these charges are mutually exclusive, and one can see that the statutes overlap in their applicability to Floyd's death. I presume the overlapping is acknowledged by applying **concurrent** sentences, rather than *cumulative* ones.

Thanks Drumstick. That's really good actually and makes it clear how all three charges are suitable. I'm just used to how it works over here, where it tends to be murder or manslaughter. I don't think you can be done for both here.

But that actually makes sense reading those descriptions.

So, a black woman is unhappy that the murderer of a black man, who several witnesses saw and filmed commiting the crime got exactly what he deserved.

What?

A jury of at least 90 people unanimously decided he was guilty, how is that 'mob justice'?

The woman is strawberry floating insane.
