Has anyone undergone this here?

I’ve been thinking of it lately. I’m in my late 20s and I always thought maybe the desire to have kids would come on but more and more the thought of having a child fills me with utter dread. I’m getting quite paranoid about getting my gf pregnant and we’re not in a country where abortions are available.

There is, of course, the worry that in 5-10 years all of a sudden I’ll get some strong paternal instinct and regret it. Would look into sperm storage to mitigate this but it doesn’t look particularly cheap.

Just use protection. You dont seem overly committed one way or another.

I've got a 3 year old and I can tell you that I shat myself when I found out it was happening. Genuinely cant imagine life without her now.

Get your bird to get the coil - they last for 5 years so if after that you still don't want a kid - then think about the snip.

Roughly 60% are reversible, if memory serves.

You're too young for the snip.

From your post history it doesn’t sound like you are going to settle down with one woman, so I’m not sure what the point of the snip would be?

Surely that would give it more of a point to prevent unplanned pregnancies with brief flings?

I obviously take precautions but mistakes happen.

If your being careful then mistakes are extremely unlikely to happen.

Yeah, the overwhelmingly obviously advice is what Proto has said - use protection. Save the heavy decision for later, unless you absolutely desperate to be constantly splurging inside her, just use a condom and you five yourself at least the option of having kids. Vasectomies are reversible, but it's not guaranteed, right? Surely it's best to just keep the option available and rubbering up.

Especially as you say you thought the desire would come eventually. Probably best to keep those tubes flowing.

I don't think you'd even be granted a vasectomy at your age. I once knew a bloke with three kids who was denied the procedure purely because of his age. He was 29.

I think it was more the social conditioning of thinking I'd possibly like kids one day rather than any strong internal inclination.

Condoms are gooseberry fool tbh. I mean, I have managed to avoid any serious pregnancy scare for the last 12 years so should theoretically manage another 12 in a similar manner but I felt as though I'm getting to the age where if any child-rearing feelings are going to surface then they should be doing so already.

That's ridiculous.

Condoms have a 98% success rate, realistically that 2% is far from inconsequential.

And actually that's not real world data, real world is 85%

I would be concerned that if you had it done you could one day meet someone you wanted to settle down with and start a family and it wouldn’t be possible, I am gay so it’s not really an issue for me but just don’t rush into any decisions you may regret in the future

I wouldn’t get one done personally. Life can take some drastic unexpected changes, you never know what could happen.

I had a discussion with my GP yesterday about the old tadpole tie-off. I'm 34 and have a son. My wife only ever wanted one and since having him I've decided I'm done as well! They wouldn't be keen on you having one sure to your age and lack of kids. Reversals aren't very effective and usually aren't on the NHS.

It sounds more like you hate wearing a condom than some actual concern over a condom failing.

With your history of casual sex, pregnancy will be the least of your worries if you start going bareback.

Yeah a condom is not just about preventing pregnancy!
