Act 1 wraps up in style and Act 2 opens up just as beautifully. Middle area of the Tsushima has it's own vibe which I already love. Haven't done much progress as usual but I recently rescued all the Farms. You should be geared up to a point which makes these pretty easy but also fun to overpower the enemies.

I regret having saved up those Skill Points and not using them earlier. Being able to parry more attacks would have been nice lol. Also Delayed Strike is the coolest gooseberry fool ever.

I just started this yesterday and I’m really enjoying it. I’m not very far yet, done one or two story missions and a bunch of side quests, shrines and such.

Love stuff like this: https://www.ign.com/articles/ghost-of-t ... ce=twitter

Ghost of Tsushima features a dynamic weather system that occurs in real-time as Jin Sakai is working to save his homeland from the invading Mongols. However, it has been revealed that more storms will occur as Jin goes deeper down the Ghost path.

Speaking to Gamespot, Ghost of Tsushima creative director Nate Fox explained that, "The game is definitely scripted to provide more storms as you do things which are extremely Ghost driven."

The weather follows Jin's journey, and begins much calmer. Yet, if the player chooses to utilize the Ghost path more as the game progresses, the storms become more frequent and areas will become a bit darker, which runs in parallel to Jin's evolution.

Adds to my point with how this game guides with sights and sounds. I'm currently balancing both Ghost and Samurai choices, but have def noticed a few more storms happening than usual.

Forced stealth sections in games can be very frustrating and just had my first bit in this game where I was genuinely fuming.

Just let me kill all the guards and be done with it.

Do you learn to stealth kill when you progress with the campaign? Spent my time going location today location and killing everyone I’ve come across. While not as polished as a certain other game it is a beauty.

Yes, you have to do one of the first main story missions to unlock stealth kills. I'd actually recommend doing a few of the main missions first as you unlock important gear and abilities.

Kinda baffled that they focused on stuff like this instead of more immersive stealth indicators or making your sword actually cut things.

How would you make stealth more immersive? I think the simple mechanics in place are fine and enjoyable enough where it's not too complicated or overdone. As for the blade cutting things, I feel like that's an odd nitpick. It would be cool yes, but then you'd have to think about how that affects Jin too. So the game would have to introduce armour management in some way to repair it which would only make things tedious given the focus on combat.

I’m really bouncing off this now, everything is starting to feel really stale and even the campaign missions are developing a GTA vibe of: start at A, go to B, fight, go to C, fight, end.

I think Days Gone has this well beat for me, it varies stuff up much more has the real unique hoarde hook and just getting around the world is much more fun.

Finished the storyline last night and have done the vast majority of the stuff in game - liberating all regions, finding all collectibles (bar flowers of course). Overall I loved it and would say there is a strong argument it is probably my game of the year, ahead of The Last of Us 2 even though I would struggle to argue that it is the better game :slol:

In terms of the pros the presentation and storytelling really help bring Japan to life. In terms of settings and worlds this has to be one of my favourites as someone interested in Japanese culture anyway. The combat is well handled and satisfying allowing aggressive or stealthier play styles. The world is vast and has lots to explore and discover (perhaps at times too much - although not quite to the extent of filler in say Assassins Creed). I liked the characters and storylines which I imagine are probably fairly standard fare for Samurai cinema but were new and fresh to me. The side tales brought some interesting variety and fleshed out your allies characters well.

The game wasn't without flaws. As I mentioned, at times it felt like there was a bit of filler in there with the amount of collectibles and the wind/vibration mechanics to help locate them weren't exactly perfect. The inability to skip cutscenes was a frustration - having to watch the setup before every duel grew a little tiresome and would really hurt a replay (hopefully with a new game + mode). I've seen some comparisons to Red Dead Redemption and while I understand them I don't think Tsushima's world is quite as alive as Red Dead's with less random encounters and surprises hidden around the world beyond collectibles - at present there doesn't appear to be much reason to continue playing once you've completed the game.

With the games flaws I can see why many critics marked it down to say 8/10, but for me the positives far outweighed the negatives. I certainly hope a sequel follows as there is such potential here for an even greater follow up. Quite possibly my favourite new IP of the generation, up there with Spiderman. 9/10

Why?

Because those are the main part of the game and would make it play a lot better.

this is really growing on me. the act 2 change of landscape is a lovely surprise and some of the story stuff with Yuriko was affecting
i love that you can vary the pace and what youre doing to suit you; youre never locked in to a mission or just collecting random gooseberry fool unless you want to be. also got my first Mongol running away in fear which was hilarious

I'm probably around 30% into Act 2 and still taking my time. The only thing that has felt mildly repetitive for me so far are Mongol Territories. Mostly because once you become stronger, they aren't super difficult to take down. I guess I could raise difficulty but that's not my style. The side quest have all been pretty consistent with enough variety to keep them engaging.
A lot of the nitpicks I've seen against this are interesting, but each to their own. I realise my stance in this isn't as prominent since I generally don't like open world games and only play the ones that interest me (which are very few and far between). So I dunno if I'm missing out on other experiences that are "objectively" better.

As much as I’ve been enjoying this so far, the missions where you are expected to find your way from a painting can strawberry float right off!

I've seen a few odd visual bugs here and there but this is the first time it took me by surprise. At least it looked flashy lol.

Also finally unlocked Ghost Stance, also known as Battousai Mode. This game just keeps speaking my language.
