If you can get a group then go for it as it's great fun but as a solo experience you may be disappointed.

I've got a real itch for a single-player open-world "realistic" military shooter, and they seem a bit thin on the ground. This is £22 on the PS store and whilst I've read the thread and seen the complaints about the SP, I'm still drawn to this. Would I be making a mistake?
The only other shooter that piques my interest is Rainbow Six: Siege, but I guess the SP aspect of that is even more watered down.
The struggle is real.

I had loads of fun with Sniper Elite III. It's generally considered and "thoughtful" rather than all-out action, but it's one of my favourite shooters. You've missed it in the PS Store sale now but it could be one to check out in the future.

I've had a long term interest in the Sniper Elite games, jawa, despite having never owned one
I just worry that they're quite narrow in execution, in that there's not as much variety to the gameplay. Obviously the sniping mechanic is hyper-cool, but I need helicopters
Sniper Elite IV looks to be far more non-linear than previous entries, but it's still pretty pricey from what I've seen. It's on my wish list, anyhoo.

Downloaded the SIXTY GIG demo last night, which I assume is so large because it's basically the full game which you can unlock by buying the full version. Had to leave it to download overnight so only got 20 mins in this morning before work.
I quite enjoyed it, only did the very initial mission (after spending far too long customising my guy
), looks very pretty for the most part and the guns and explosions all sound sufficiently meaty. The map also appears to be gargantuan
I've still got a while on the timed demo so will give it some more time this evening and then make a purchase decision. But for scratching that military shooter itch, it looks like it will do the job.

Sniper Elite III was one of my favourite titles that I played last year; once I started it I couldn't stop playing and - prepare yourself for a shock -
I actually completed it . Gameplay is excellent and the campaign missions, whilst not open-world - allow for a variety of ways in tackling them. The sniping mechanism is awesome and, even though I'm not one for gore, the visceral shot replays are incredible. When it's on sale in the PS Store the Ultimate Edition is often around £8; a bargain in my eyes for the enjoyment you get from it.
I've got Sniper Elite 4 and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, too, but I've not yet played enough of them to comment on their quality

Well I played all 5 hours of the demo last night and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it
Sure the driving is a bit wonky but I’m not playing a driving game, I’m playing a sneaking through the jungle sniping bad guys and using drones and calling in mortar strikes and upgrading and customising my kit and weapons and looking like a badass in night vision with my (AI) boys hanging on the side of a chopper swooping in and bringing mini gun hot death to those who deserve it (and some civilians, sorry) game.
In 5 hours of playing I didn’t get bored once, I would have carried on playing for another 5 hours were it not already 1am when I finished. The music is super chilled too, very Sicario-like in parts (probably helped by the fact there are actual Sicarios in the game).
Character controls were tight and the combat was great. The sniping is awesome, became my weapon of choice very quickly
The gameworld is mind-bogglingly large and packed to the gills with stuff to collect and skill points to earn, there’s so much progression available which helps give a purpose to the side quests.
I will definitely be purchasing this, don’t get all the criticism to be honest. Shitballs

The game is great multi-player as you can really set-up some great team play actions with one acting as eye's in the sky (I love playing that role) with the drone and 3 people sneaking in or just going kill crazy and the drone being used to pick-up and downed team members when you get the defib ability or used to distract when used as a bomb.
It's well worth a try as a team and I really hope they do another game in the series.

PS4. It’s on the PS store at £21.99 until the 12th, after which I imagine it will go back up in price to something silly.

Wildlands is going to be free to play this weekend, from from Thursday 2nd May until Sunday 5th May on XBO, PS4 and PC.
Also on 2nd May, the next free addition arrives in the form of Operation Oracle:

I still play this and would recommend anyone with an interest in military/spec-ops games to give it a go. It's just a lot of fun, ignore the cliched story and just enjoy the action.
