I think the reason people are being a lot more angry at how gooseberry fool this looks is because it's a lot of peoples childhood favourite. If they announced a new Goonies film with the exact same number of boys and girls in it, but made it look as tacky and lame as this GB's reboot, I'd be equally pissed off and dismissive.

Saying the likes of Total Recall/Robocop didn't get a huge backlash is true, but that's most likely because when people said they looked gooseberry fool, people just accepted it because they did and that was that. With Ghostbusters, anything bad said is instantly hit back at with calls of sexism. I imagine that gets a lot of people annoyed as it's basically telling them they only don't like it for sexist reasons. strawberry float that.

Obviously there are a lot of dickheads online who spout this venom but it's clearly a minority. Taking comments from youtube seriously is something I will never understand though. It's usually some weird little teenager who just wants to get attention, whether they mean what they are saying or not. It's a bizarre phenomenon.

I won't see it at the cinema that's for sure, and will wait until a person without an agenda has seen it and can give an honest review. I can't imagine the usual media outlets will pan it if it does turn out crap, as if this thread is anything to go by, if they suggests it's awful and not funny then they will obviously face a backlash of "misogynist!".

Except that doesn't work as plenty of rebooted movies have no added vagina and look shite or were shite.

Exactly, that's the point. Remakes of Total Recall, Robocop, Point Break, The Karate Kid and others pass by without anything like the overblown outrage surrounding this film. Ghostbusters is a more cherished film, but it's way out of proportion. I'm certain if this were a remake with male leads the hate wouldn't be anywhere near as bad

The mistake you are making though is assuming that people that think it looks gooseberry fool are just hating it because of added vagina.

That's not what I said. Some people think it's some world-ending abomination, others think it just looks like another gooseberry fool movie. The difference is the former are generally sexist banana splits

Those who think it looks like "just another gooseberry fool movie" probably weren't fans of the originals. It looks complete and utter garbage and will be forgotten about a month after release.

None of the other remakes mentions got such a scathing reception because they didn't completely disregard the source material in the name of sticking a popular film franchise on a middle of the road, cookie cutter genre piece.

My hatred of women hasn't influenced my opinion on this film in any way.

It looks rubbish. Like Skippy says, not world ending, just like an average shitey blockbuster.

I'm not sure what you mean by world ending, people are massively disappointed because the remake of a loved film looks absolute gooseberry fool house. Obviously there are worse things going on in the world.

I'm repeating a phrase Skip used: that some people are expressing sentiments online that the release of this film is akin to the world almost literally ending.

It's not.

It's just bizarre to some of us that people would get so angry over a film. It's not like the original was some bastion of high art or anything. It's brilliant, but there's also a dream sequence where I guy gets a ghost blowjob.

The crucial thing I've never understood, is how this film will gooseberry fool on people's memories of the original. The original will remain exactly the same. It's not even in the same boat as the Star Wars prequels, where at least you can say the story is all interconnected and that a lot of what we saw wasn't as good as what existed in the imagination of fans. Even then, you had people saying Lucas went back in time to 1977 and went all dirty uncle on their childhoods.

The Internet has always loved overreaction. For me, the trailer was completely unmemorable. Definitely not funny, but nor was it mind-meltingly horrendous. It was middle of the road, standard big budget stuff.

It's somehow ruined a film made in 1984 though. Wonder if it'll stop Reagan getting re-elected.

Lucas did actually go and try to ruin the originals too, though. Greedo scene, etc.

Again, I'm not saying that all the people who dislike it because of 'ick women', but there's no denying a massive misogynistic undertone to this being the most disliked movie trailer of all time.

Oh god, that's straight from the cal school of reasoning. YouTube comments are always absolute cesspits.

I do agree that it's probably the most disliked trailer ever because of moronic misogynists but that's pretty irrelevant to the criticim laid out in this thread. As far as I'm aware the folk in here saying it looks like gooseberry fool have nothing against women.

To be as fair as I can to this film, it's like what the original would have been if all four characters were Ray.

It's just massively disappointing that they couldn't have done something along the lines of Jurassic World; a modern take on the story with a sprinkling of nostalgia. Instead they watched Starsky and Hutch and decided to do that.

I totally understand that you might see the original as just a film but to those of us who spent our childhoods with a toy golf club in a backpack and sliding down banisters, Ghostbusters means so much more. The new film will never tarnish those memories but it would have been so strawberry floating cool if they could have given the fans of the original something to get excited about.

Jurassic Park was that film for me and yet I survived Jurassic World.

YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE FILM YET. Also, how is it being a feminist film about a team of women not a modern take?

Why is a film with female leads classed as a feminist film? Can't it just be a film? Jesus Skippy you've changed.

I'm a massive Jurassic Park fan too, not sure why you wouldn't think that Jurassic World want at least trying to capture the feeling of the original.

I may not have seen the film but unless the trailer is completely misrepresenting the end product, I stand by my opinion.

Whether it was intended to be a feminist film or not, it's become one because of all the misogyny surrounding its existence.
