I like bridesmaids and most of the cast but I really can't get excited by this. I'm sure party of it is me being overly protective of what was such a huge part of my childhood (my nanna found the ghostbusters 2 poster she kept up at her house there other day ) but I just can't imagine this exististing anywhere other than 80's New York.

I know exactly what people mean about the new film being 'zany'. Everything fit in the tone ghostbusters, the science and the equipment they use are the right level of plausible that it's easy to suspend your disbelief. The humour is also very natural, I can imagine the new film having someone sliding awkwardly down the pole which might turn out to be funny but ghostbusters rarely relies on visual gags.

TLDR; I can let transformers and the turtles go. Please don't ruin this.

I hope this is a good film in its own right but I don't have high hopes. I guess they're hoping to appeal to a new audience rather than fans of the original but can't help think that in itself might hurt it. There's a lot of people who grew up with ghost busters who have waited a long time for a new one and I can't see too many being excited by this.

I don't see why it has to be an all female cast, why not mix it up with a couple of guys and a couple of women.. also don't see the need for a reboot. Why not say that things have been quiet since ghost busters 2 and people have largely forgotten about ghosts but now somethings happened and they're picking up again.

They could bring back Ray and Winston who are still Ghost busters but are largely living off money made from the ongoing fees for containing ghosts trapped previously meaning they've got both old and out of shape. Then when more ghosts start appearing they realise they need to recruit a new team. Maybe build egos absence in saying he left to go work on some big science project and if they couldn't get Murray to appear maybe say he's retired with Dana Barrett or something.

Then have Ray and Winston training the new guys and helping on their first busts before focusing on the new people for the rest.

This allows them to do pretty much same as they're planning but still links back to the old ones for old fans and still gives them a fresh currently ghost-free modern world to play with.

Maybe start with them using the old tech too and have it malfunctioning so they work with the new guys to update it.

still maybe this will suprised us. We'll see I guess.. my biggest fear is what they'll do to Ecto1. That cars iconic.. if they come out in a pink cadillac I'm out.

I think we should make this into a bingo thread and maintain it until the new film comes out.

Ray and Winston appearing as ghost cameos.

One of them dancing around pretending the proton pack gun is a willy.

The element of this film I cant stand the most is the "reboot" part. Don't get me wrong, I'm always up for more Ghostbusters films but put it this way. If in 20 years Star Wars Eps 4-6 or Blade Runner were "rebooted" the uproar would be just the same as the uproar over this new "reboot" of the first film. Nothing will be as good as the original.

Totally with you dude. Ray and Winston wouldn't even need to have big roles and it would be the perfect way to bridge the gap between the old and new fan base.

Sony Plans Guy-Themed ‘Ghostbusters’ Film With Russo Brothers, Channing Tatum & ‘IM3′ Scribe Drew Pearce
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures is broadening the Ghostbusters franchise and the first order of business will be a male-driven action-centric comedy that is a counterpart to the Paul Feig-directed film that will start production in June. The studio is simultaneously forming Ghostcorps, a new production company whose principals include original Ghostbusters architects Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd; they will have offices at Sony with the mission to scare up branding opportunities based on the 1984 comedy classic.

Reitman is putting the male-driven film with a powerhouse brain trust: Captain America: The Winter Soldier helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, who just made a first-look Sony deal and are looking to direct and produce this; Drew Pearce, the Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible 5 scribe who’ll write; and Channing Tatum and his partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan, who are attached to produce. The hope is for Tatum to play one of the Ghostbusters in this film. Given his versatility and franchising success in 21 Jump Street and Magic Mike, he’s a good cornerstone to launch another Ghostbusters series. The idea came from Pearce, who honed it the Russo Brothers, Tatum’s team and Reitman.

This is being put together even as the studio moves to the start line with a Ghostbusters reboot that will be directed by Feig and star his Bridesmaids leads Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, and Saturday Night Live stand outs Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. All of this is being steered by new studio head Tom Rothman, Doug Belgrad and production president Michael De Luca.

Reitman confirmed these early plans to Deadline, and said that this was something he and Aykroyd had long discussed. In fact, it is remarkably close to the branding prospects included in a cosmic Bible for the possibilities that they hatched 30 years ago, ideas which were used to form the original film. They were rolling around ideas for Ghostcorps with top Sony execs Amy Pascal and Belgrad last fall at the Toronto Film Festival at Montecito. That’s the 12,000-square-foot restaurant that Reitman opened near the TIFF Bell Lightbox building, and which played host to several major festival premieres. Now, after Pascal left to become a producer on Feig’s Ghostbusters, they are ready to move on the branding effort.

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman told me. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

Reitman said that aside from himself and Aykroyd, Ghostcorps principals will be his longtime Montecito partner Tom Pollock, Ali Bell and Alex Plapinger, and Sony. They’ll take space on the Culver City lot, even as they continue operating Montecito as a separate production company. They have several pictures percolating at Paramount and they are getting close on a movie adaptation of Baywatch.

“My primary focus will be to build the Ghostbusters into the universe it always promised it might become. The original film is beloved, as is the cast, and we hope to create films we will continue to love.”

This is early days and the Russo Brothers, who are prepping their second Captain America pic Captain America: Civil War (Sony’s signature superhero Spider-Man is expected to make an appearance), have also been mentioned as being coveted by Marvel to direct the next two Avengers movies — taking over for Joss Whedon — so we’ll see the configuration when this makes it to the start gate.

That uncertainty doesn’t scare Reitman, particularly given how long it took to resuscitate the franchise after waiting years for original Ghostbuster Bill Murray to read the script. They are all very happy to be relaunching the franchise with Feig’s version.

“Sometimes things happen at the speed they are supposed to happen,” he said. “The deals were so strong on that second movie that the franchise became frozen in place 25 years. Nothing got done, we all had the power to block whatever we didn’t like, but we finally got together and found a way.”

Those Ghostbusters deals simply don’t exist anymore in Hollywood. Stars don’t get first dollar gross anymore, but that opens different doors that include back door paydays and, sometimes, being a part owner in a promising new concern like Ghostcorps.

Shiver me timbers! You wait 30 years for a Ghostbusters movie and then two come along at once... After the girl-cast of the Paul Feig movie was released, I read an interview with Dan Ackroyd in You magazine. He spoke of hoping to finally get around to his dream of making another Ghostbusters movie (and kinda how he blamed Bill Murray for it not having happened). I thought it sounded more of a lament of a maturing guy but it actually seems there was some substance to it!

Casting, I suspect Ackroyd will want to be in it even if it is just a background figure. Tatum's okay but I find his acting and his face a bit bland, Chris Pratt is similar type but a bit more to him. Now there is the Feig movie I wonder if this will be pushed to a more straight up action route.

It will be interesting to see if the new production company name Ghostcorps, will somehow be used in the movie. And a lot of movie studios are seeing value in adopting the shared universe philosophy with their IP, like Universal so this could be very good for Sony. I look forward to the Ghostbusters crossover movie! :D

I wonder if they're going back to the idea of Ghostbusters becoming a franchise of multiple teams around the world. Wasn't that one of the potential plots for Ghostbusters 3?

Channing Tatum? sigh. He isn't funny. He's barley even human. I'll skip both I think unless something miraculous happens.

Nonsense. He's really great in the Jumpstreet movies, Magic Mike and White House Down. I used to think he was gooseberry fool too, but then the last 4 years happened.

I really wish they weren't going for a "universe". :dread: Ugh.

But these are the times we live in. Where Hollywood is so bereft of original thoughts that they have to go a revive things that haven't had an entry in 26 years and attempt to spin them off into mega-franchises.

I love Ghostbusters, both of them. I'd always wanted a third movie but...

New Ghostbusters Director "wants to update" Iconic Theme Song
The Ghostbusters theme song is one of the most recognizable movie tunes to ever come out of Hollywood.

But will it be used in the Ghostbusters remake with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon?

"We have ways to bring it in that we're playing with, so we'll see," director Paul Feig told me last night at the SXSW premiere of Spy, his new comedy starring McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne (more on that later on).

"It's such an iconic thing that part of you goes, 'I don't want to change it,' but then another part of you wants to update it," Feig said. "It's one of the biggest questions we're faced with."

Image

McCarthy can't imagine the song not being in the movie.

"I'll get the old pipes warmed up," she joked. "I'm a horrible singer. I cannot sing. I'll do a Milli Vanilli."

McCarthy recently showed the original movie to her two kids. "They loved it," she said. "They were like, 'Which one are you going to be?'...And then they wanted to know if there's going to be real ghosts."

Feig also confessed that he considered lots of different actresses to star in the movie. "It took me months to figure out that cast," he said. "It all seems so obvious now but if you could hear the combinations I had before that, you would think I was crazy."
