Meet the new team: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon

A complete reboot that introduces the world to ghost and ghostbusters:

Paul Feig speaking to Empire Magazine wrote: “I have too much respect for the original one [to do a sequel],” he said. “There’s also the feeling that once the world knows ghosts and has seen them busted on such a large scale, they run the risk of becoming pedestrian. There’s something fun about introducing our world, which has never seen ghosts to the phenomenon of ghosts. I love origin stories and to introduce new characters.”

Paul Feig making another Melissa McCarthy movie, maybe with some ghosts.

I can't see it being anything else than complete garbage. The guy couldn't make a comedy if his life depended on it.

WOOO!

MOAR Ghostbusters!

The oppressed are allowed once every few years to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them in parliament.

I still don't understand why it needed an all female cast. And if they were going to do that they could have at least got some half decent actresses.
Can't see this having any of the spirit (no pun intended) of the original.

I'm afraid not. Still, I guess some people, somewhere, find it funny, so they'll enjoy the new Ghostbusters.

You know, i'm always cynical about reboots and wonder what is the point of remaking a movie when the original is still good. I waited a long time for Ghostbusters 3 to happen and it didn't and was disappointed. However putting all that aside this has potential! The four women (I only knew Wiig and McCarthy) have been chosen not because they are Hollywood babes but because they are comedy actresses. Much has been made of the girl group aspect but as long as it's not a girl power message and just about four women coming together to fight ghosts this will still of course have a very broad appeal. The original was such a clever unique movie that blended genres successfully and was rewarded with great box office receipts. I'm hopeful for this and I'm looking forward to meeting Slimer again.

Thing is, you'd think those two films would have entirely different target audiences. The over the top zany comedy of something like 'Bridesmaids' has absolutely no place in Ghostbusters.

I'm not too sure on this. Ghostbusters was one of my most favorite movies of the eighties, and I'm also quite the stickler for wearing rose tints. I haven't seen 'Bridesmaids' so I cannot comment if it's my brand of humour or not. It's all very well Feig saying it's a 'new world' but the audience have already seen a similar world....

I am not convinced at the moment by this but we don't really know much about it yet. I'll reserve judgement until we see the first trailer.

The original Ghostbusters is still brilliant and always will be. As far as I'm concerned this is a much better prospect for a reboot than a new male team with Seth Rogen, James Franco et al. Would rather McCarthy wasn't involved as her teaming with Fieg is growing tired, but I like Wiig and the other two are meant to be great.

I'll take Seth Rogan over those four any day.

McCarthy's character would be like Murray's Venkman. But less dead-pan.

Dan Aykroyd being sucked off by a ghost. A giant marshmallow man. Not zany at all.

As with all reboots of beloved franchises it's going to be a poor mans imitation of Ghostbusters.
To be fair though I was never going to be happy about anything other than the original cast.

A film about Ghostbusting isn't zany? Do you actually read what you write Laga? I don't think you even seen anything these actresses have been in anyway.

I think it's good thing they have kept the series with a mainly SNL collective atleast. Also interested to see what the writer can do seeing as she wrote some episodes for Parks and Recreation.. as long as it's not fat or fart jokes

Zany was probably the wrong word, but the humour in something like Bridesmaids is very different to the humour in Ghostbusters, the two just don't match at all.
Bridesmaids always seemed more like an 'American Pie for women' style of humour whilst Ghostbusters generally played it with a straight face, which just made it funnier.
