I mean, it's fine now but I'm starting to get frustrated. So you know enough's enough. Don't make me ang lee. You wouldn't like me when I'm ang lee.

At least Vista worked (well, it did on the PC i had anyways), ME however was by far the worst operating system i have ever used.

Boot up computer with windows ME, connect to aol dial up net, 30 seconds later after the first website loads, the whole thing freezes and the only way to restart the laptop is to remove the battery, start again and repeat.

Bloody awful.

ME was shite, but it was just a continuation of the same shite that 95 and 98 had been. Vista was building on the half decent foundations of 2000/XP and so could have been good, yet it managed to strawberry float things up even more!

Vista was fine as long as you have enough power in your machine for it.

Whilst people trying to upgrade under-powered machines to Vista or manufacturers releasing "Vista Capable" machines which were anything but did make Vista look worse as an OS than it may have otherwise done, there were enough genuine issues that mean Vista can still rightly be called a stinker!

My parents still have Vista on their PC and I can confirm that it is bloomin' awful... *so* slow and resource intensive.

Unfortunately Vista users weren't included in Microsoft's free update scheme for Windows 10.

I had Windows vista on my machine at the time and I never had any serious problems. I think I had to flash my bios to install it and the shut down took an age. It may have been the switch from 32 bit xp to 64 bit vista that kept things seeming speedy. I turned off a load of services to free ram that helped as well.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

It wasn't the complete car crash that it's sometimes made out to be, but things like the poor performance even on very capable hardware, the over zealous implementation of User Account Control, the terrible driver support after launch, the lack of compatibility with key software, and bad optimisation for laptops (too keen to run lots of fairly non-essential background processes and services which drained battery life like crazy) were all big issues.

It also took way longer to come out than it should have done - 5+ years of development! And in that time most of the key features that it was supposed to be adding onto XP were stripped away and it was hard to understand exactly what we were left with that was better than what we had by XP Service Pack 3.

I think they might have ramped the cost up from XP as well which never helps when it comes to fostering good feedback!

Oh yeah, 7 was a complete gooseberry fool show. It still had all sorts of crap like a functional start menu and the ability to find the button that turns it off. ;)

Love how this has become a not-so-stealthy Windows discussion, far more interesting than toxic masculinity

This works most of the time, but occasionally the search will change to a different kind of search in ways and means I don't understand

Actually it has just shifted the narrative towards the pro-PC agenda.

Latest YouGov polling pretty much in line with the focus groups I did on this advert, though not quite as vehemently apposed...

YouGov's poll wording and choices continue to frustrate me

Yeah that is a pretty crap choice of wording for both the question and the options for answers.

The advert isn't exactly "blaming" anyone, it's just pointing out that some people are dicks and that we should all try to be less of a dick and challenge dick-ish behaviour when we see it. How über controversial!
