The RAF won't touch you if you've had laser eye surgery cuz they don't know the long term effects. Even though it's been around quite a while now.

I'm assuming that 15-plus years of commercially available laser surgery means it's pretty well established/tested. :shifty:

Ah don't worry chap, it was just someone I know. I think she had a point about it being relatively untested, but then again, something that's potentially sight-threatening wouldn't exactly be made widely available.

Had glasses since I was about 12 and even if my eyes magically fixed themselves I'd still wear glasses. I'm so used to them now, I actually look better with them on and as melatonin said, people just assume that you always know what you're talking about. My current glasses are made by Giorgio Armani which cost me about £300. Expensive, yes, but it's my eyes and I wear them every second I'm awake so price isn't an issue.

I've also got a pair of orange tinted glasses that are similar to the ones Edgar Davids uses for when I'm playing football or tennis out in the sun for a long time. They're awesome.

I wouldn't watch it until your surgery is done with mate.

They put a metal thing around the blokes' eye and it goes around in a circle. His eye then floods with blood, and the surgeon mops it up with a sponge.
Then they strawberry floating stick a metal stick underneath the flap and just rip it off the eyeball.

Eurgh.

Don't panic Lime, a workmate of mine had her eyes lasered, and (and I quote) - "it's changed my life."

Sounds awesome, right?

Mind you, I can't remember if she said "for the better" or "for the worse" :fp:

Hey Lime, don't worry bro...

Just watch this video and your mind will be put at ease:

Oh gooseberry fool, wrong video... that's the video where the surgeon completely strawberry floats up the removal of the flap after it tears into pieces like cheap clingfilm and strawberry floats up the guy's vision forever...

BRB I'll get the right video.....

I did that all through 6th form and uni. I've got like 5 pairs of designer glasses on the cheap. When I turned 19 and was a student I had to pay full price, so I updated them the week before to get cheap awesome ones while I could.

i just think loosing your eyesight would be so terrible, that it's not worth risking, even if there's only a slight chance things could go wrong...glasses ain't so bad

Well, my eyes are being 'cut' with a laser, to avoid the whole 'can opener' thing.

Jeez guys.....

Well, recently I found a box of old VHS's and decided to go through them. One was a home video of me when I was about 8 giving a crude tour of my house, followed by some footage of me and some mates playing in the street. The rush of nostalgia was beautiful, damn near had a tear in my eye, such simpler times.

Then I found my copy of The Land Before Time, and proceeded to blub. Lovely film, just as great as it always appeared as a child.

That was a really nice day.

Right, apologies for bumping my own thread, but:

One day to go. Tomorrow at about 1:45 I'll be on the surgeons table, having my eyes burnt.

Am cacking myself already, but kind of excited too. 25 years of wearing glasses will be over.

Another plus point is that my g/f is going to read me Fantastic Mr. Fox while I'm recovering- in my romantic mind it'll be like something out of the English Patient.

Why is there no smiley with glasses?
