In these times of bad news it's heartening to hear something positive. The Video Games Tax Relief (VGTR) initiative was introduced in 2014 by the UK government and this has brought about many much-needed tax breaks for smaller UK game development companies.
The results have now been revealed and it's clear that the scheme has been a major success. Sony has been awarded £30m, Warner £60m and Sega £20m.
Metro.co.uk wrote:...much of the money has gone to large-scale multinational projects, with applications for less than £50,000 accounting for more than half of successful claims but adding up to just £10 million of the total £324 million in tax reductions.
Many of these huge, global media companies are struggling to get by and it seems about time that they gained a helping hand from taxpayers
