It's a nice thought, but I don't think it's true. With it being a failing show, there obviously wouldn't be the budget to pay them their usual fees, so it was like an act of charity/"for the fans", and they were not going to give it much time or change their schedules for it. Hence them filming their bits completely separately - to the extent that they weren't even there at the same time for their "reunion" with Mike.

God damn this is kinda sad. Can't believe it's ending, haven't watched since my Mum passed away but still Neighbours was always a part of my life. I watched it for like 22 years.

It was a good finale it felt more a celebration of Ramsey street and its history than it ending it did leave its ending open if it ever gets rebooted again
