Colour me surprised they're doing a completely free sub for older, 1080p games. A loss leader to attract the sceptics I suppose, and of course you have to buy a Chromecast.
But, it does indeed look like they're setting themselves up as the Amazon Prime to GamePass' Netflix.

Well...no. Premium games will be extra. We don't know how much extra, but I can't imagine they'll be that much cheaper than on other online stores.
I don’t think what they’re actually offering is that bad at all. Obviously, the real question is how well it plays over streaming, but the offering seems reasonable enough to me.
However, the whole setup, and different entry points seems a little messy. Your dedicated gaming fan will be able to understand it, but I’m not sure the wider general public will be able to grasp it quickly.

Well...yes. Sure you don’t get new games. But you are getting an Xbox Game Pass equivalent with 4K without the initial expense of an Xbox One X. I’m not saying it’s my perfect gaming setup but it makes premium home gaming so much more accessible.
I think the big thing here is the price. It's basically impulse purchase territory, the sort of thing I might just chuck in the supermarket trolley at the end of a week.
3 months subscription free with it too? Yeah, why not, I'd think. About the cost of a game a month to see if I liked it.
Don't like it? Then cancel the subscription, maybe reactivate it every now and again when new stuff comes out.
Loads less clutter would also be a big appeal. I've always been a huge fan of owning stuff, both consoles and games, but gradually I'm changing and seeing the appeal of just having a controller and no wires / cables / shelf space being taken up. It's the future for media surely, unless you're a collector at heart.
I can definitely see me giving this a go. I expect it would make me think twice about a new Ms or Sony console if I knew many of the big games would probably follow along on this later, since I'm always behind on my games list anyway.
Though, not too convinced about the controller design.
