Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle, a 64-player Pac game that appears to have been inspired by Nintendo's Tetris 99 and Mario 35, is "first on Stadia".

Google appears to have massively ramped up their advertising for Stadia on YouTube. I've never seen so much about the service as over the past few days.

Stadia still seems to barely get a mention in the gaming media, though. I wonder what the player figures and game sales are like?

I've been trying this out this evening. Used the free trial to see how it ran before deciding whether or not to get Cyberpunk on it.

I'm using Stadia on my laptop browser and then sending the video/audio to the telly Via HDMI.
Laptop is wired to the router, so it's getting 300 down and 300 up.
And Dual shock 4 connected to laptop via Bluetooth.

It's very good if I'm honest! Much better than I anticipated.

Destiny 2 runs as though I'm playing it natively on a console in the room. As does Sniper Elite 4.
Visuals are nice and detailed with no loss of quality.

And I'm not getting any input lag at all, which was the problem with PS Now. Even with 300/300 speed.

Tempted to get Cyberpunk after all, especially with the freebie controller and Chromecast.

Is it true that if you get a game on Stadia Pro, the equivalent of Gamepass as I understand it, even on the trial, and then cancel, that game stays yours to play anyway?

Unlike them being switched off after a while like with Gamepass stuff?

Just wondering if it's worth trialling for a month, buying a few things with the discount as well, and starting a few things like Hitman 2 that are free just to keep them.

Especially given the hardware has cost nothing with Cyberpunk anyway

Stadia Pro is more like PS+ and XB Gold. It's not like Gamepass, no. I had it for a few months and have about 10 games or so.

If you claim any of the Pro free games and you don't continue after the free trial then you lose access to them (but the save data remains if you decide to start paying again in the future) but if you actually buy a game with your hard earned then you keep it regardless.

Cheers for the explanation, folks.

Still got a £10 off code for buying something during the Pro trial, so might as well use that too to 'own' something else as well as Cyberpunk, and then see how it goes.

Be fun to try it out anyway.

(From the Cyberpunk 2077 thread)

It was supposed to go on until the 17th!

Nevermind then. That'll be stadia getting cancelled now.

Oh that's really really gooseberry fool! Wonder if they have had way more uptake than anticipated.

Hope I still get mind - it was definitely still up when I ordered but they had the usual caveats of "while stocks last".

Edit: yeah according to their reddit post they had "overwhelming demand".

Anyone who ordered before midnight Sunday eve/Monday morning should get a code within 7 days apparently.

Really hope I don't get shafted as I 100% would not have bought this without the deal.

It was a great offer and I'm surprised that Google has ended it early; there must have been a huge boost to Stadia sales. It has been interesting to hear that most folk trying it out seem to be reasonably impressed; I still feel that this approach is where gaming is heading over the next decade.

It's like they don't want people to take up their platform!
"This tempting deal is too tempting! Pull the plug!"

Baffling!

I guess they had a whole bunch of Stadia controllers and Chromecasts that they didn't think they'd ever shift, but this deal has gone like hot cakes so they probably had to pull the plug to avoid stock issues.

Best thing is I bet a fair amount of peope where just getting it for the Chromecast and cyberpunk, then would probably never touch stadia again.

^this is 100% me. I got in about 16 hours ahead of the deal closing so hopefully will be fine - still waiting on my email though.

Ooh - compare it to a Switch Pro Controller and DS4 for me.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions about how Stadia runs on the Chromecaset - are you connecting your chromecast via ethernet?

I will hold both in my hand and see how each feels :datass:

My Chromecast is connected via wireless, which maxes out at about 60mbps :dread: - I live in a new build estate and we don't have much choice for providers :(

Apparently even wired it maxes out at 100mbps.

We have hyperoptic FTTP in our new build thankfully, so am getting 300Mbps even over wifi at the furthest point from the router (On the 500Mbps plan) so seems a bit rubbishy to have to drop down by wiring it up. Will give it a go wired up and see how that goes when I get mine (I also have fancy wall ethernet ports all over the house that connects to corresponding ports in the router cupboard so got a couple by the TV in the lounge).

Getting Stadia actually prompted me to look on uswitch at alternative providers, and what a shower of shite that was - loads of providers offering 100mbps+ speeds based on my postcode, but when you actually proceed to their site and re-enter your details they (shock!) can't actually offer any services in my area :o :x
