In 2018, the president of WB Interactive basically said all their games would be GaaS now:

But more than ever, the tech stack, whether it’s for publishing or BI or marketing, that you build and serve these games on—as we increasingly move everything to games as a service, the kind of enabling technology you need to keep them hyper-social, to keep them serving well, to keep them engaged, to take the innovations of game makers and deliver them, like the Nemesis system—you’ll see a lot of our investment not just in classic development, designers and engineers and artists, but increasingly in the teams that end up serving live games.

As time progresses I'm more and more convinced that "live service" games are a strawberry floating cancer. As much as I know Jim Sterling winds a lot of people up he's absolutely spot on. These companies don't want lots of money, they want ALL the money and live services are the way to do that.

Yep, and GamePass is going to see it happening even more in my opinion.

But how is this not part of the Arkhamverse? The trailer clearly sets itself up based on the Knightfall protocol from the previous game.

Arkham spoilers: Mr Freeze dies in Arkham seriez doesnt he? He is in this

Also, Batman blatantly isn't going to be really dead

That’s what I was thinking. He pops up at the end of something

Steam page is out, will probably get more info between 6 & 10pm today at DC FanDome -

Batman is dead. A new expansive, criminal underworld has swept the streets of Gotham City. It is now up to the Batman Family; Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood, and Robin; to protect Gotham, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. From solving mysteries that connect the darkest chapters in the city's history to defeating notorious villains in epic confrontations, you must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save the streets from descent into chaos.

Gotham Knights is an open-world, action RPG set in the most dynamic and interactive Gotham City yet. Patrol Gotham's five distinct boroughs in solo-play or with one other hero and drop in on criminal activity wherever you find it.

Your legacy begins now. Step into the Knight.

Finding it hard to be excited for this or Suicide Squad, both just seem such a departure from the Arkham games in all the worst ways.

Replayed the four Arkham games at the end of last year/ start of this one and they're still fantastic. Not a bad one amongst them.

Still not sure about this new game though. Guess we'll have to see just how much it's been compromised to cram live service gooseberry fool into it.

I like the idea of having a few heroes to play as and I enjoy openworld games. I've *still* not tackled Rocksteady's Batman series (and Origins!) but they're all in the backlog.

Agree. Asylum is good. City, the 2nd, is better.

Incredible games and I’m interested in this. See what happens when it lands.

City is my least favourite. Origins is on par with Asylum.

Yeah, I really should get round to the series, guys. I have the games on various Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation formats and still haven't tried 'em! When I decide to start, I'll go with Arkham Asylum and work my way through.

I disliked city, did a chunk of it but just got bored and lost interest in it.

Asylum > Knight > City

Asylum is one of the greatest games ever imo.

I never got round to Origins.

Call me nostalgic, but the nightlife seems to have lost its old charm.

Maybe I remember city wrong, but more asylum with much bigger and wider scope. It was a little bare mind. Knight was good, but just didn’t have the feel of asylum/city. Origins was alright, but never as good.

Bottom line. Superb set of games and so I’m hopeful this is good.

There is the suicide squad thread going too…, are these both rocksteady games and rocksteady made the original Arkham series?

Rocksteady is doing the Suicide Squad game, the team who did Origins is doing this.

Asylum is superb.

I did start it once but only played the opening ten mins! In recent times I saw Cheeky Devlin stream some Batman action and it was really neat. I have Asylum on my 360 but I think I'll go with the PS4 port that I picked up cheaply a few months ago.

I did also begin City, which is more of the same but more 'open-world' so no bad thing. Must get back to it some time and also begin Origins.

Thanks for this. Along with the trailer in the other thread, it’s highly likely I’ll only get one of these games to start with (unless there is a 6 month window between them). But my preference is the trilogy, rather than origins, so probably sim for suicide squad.
