Other than his leadership bid launch he’s been very quietly avoiding the press and interviews. Obviously it’s part of a strategy to avoid him strawberry floating up and TV debates would risk that.

Raab dressed like he’s auditioning for the next Hitman movie.

Lots of blue on blue action between him and Stewart.

Gove with the line of the night though: ‘Corbyn is scared of me’

To be fair though, Gove's face is enough to put the fear of god in anyone. He looks like a puppet that's been brought to life with Satanism.

Rory Stewart may not look like PM material whatsoever, but he’s spoken the most sense this evening. I’d put Hunt second. Javid has unfortunately looked rather weak.

Gove and Raab are just atrocious. Gove needs to stick to the Environment.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy hasn't been a fantastic moderator to be completely fair, but all the candidates come across like slippery banana splits.

Imagine being a fully paid up, card carrying member of the Tory party and all your hard earned cash goes towards supporting this bunch of utter mediocrity.

I thought Rory Stewart came off well, was the only one to really answer the question recognising weaknesses, and were this a debate the public had any involvement in he would have shot right up the league tables, but I can’t see anywhere enough Tories voting for him, let alone reaching the last 2.

Biggest disappointment was Sajid Javid, who made almost no impression at all. Biggest moment involving him was the question about why Donald Trump wasn’t interested in meeting.

Hunt has a poor track record in the NHS and is hated by most people working in it, there’s an undercurrent of unsympathetic thuggishness to Raab that isn’t endearing, nobody was taking Gove seriously, and obviously Boris didn’t turn up.

I was speaking to a contractor yesterday who was doing work on the replacement for CAP and he said that as much as he hates to admit it, Gove was a fairly good environment secretary.

Piss poor Education Secretary though.

So who do we lose today? I think Raab is done and maybe one of Javid or Gove. Stewart seems to be getting more support after the debate.

Amazing how Boris (and a few of the newspapers today) are shitting themselves over Rory Stewart, and therefore now want him gone.

Here’s what The Sun has to say today, specifically targeting Rory Stewart:

TORY MPs voting for Rory Stewart today are GUILTY of the same self-indulgence as the nitwits who wrecked Labour by giving Corbyn his undeserved chance in 2015.

The difference being that unless Boris implodes, Stewart won’t win when members have their say. All he might do is deprive the party and country of a more credible challenger.

Jeremy Hunt, maybe. Or Sajid Javid, who rightly says: “Rory is spending too much time appealing to Labour voters, not the Conservative membership.”

Stewart is the candidate for Lib Dem or Labour Remoaners. For supercilious Westminster bubble inhabitants who love to declare Brexit “undeliverable” and the choice of fools. Who believe only they are intellectually equipped to grasp its complexities.

They recognise Stewart, from his pitying smiles and exasperated head-shaking, as one of theirs.

Would they ever vote for his party? Er, no.

I hope Rory Stewart at least gets through this round. He's the only one who isn't bum-licking Boris Johnson in the hope of a cabinet job. Need him to say it how it is in the BBC debate tonight.

Instead, Boris will probably use his extra votes to ensure Rory is knocked out today..

If they want a Tory party in 10 years time then Stewart is someone they have to seriously consider. Problem is, they may not make it 5 years unless they kowtow to the ERG. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.
