FF7 is the only FF game as far as I'm concerned.

I guess JENOVA out of the three but where's FF6 intro, FF6 opera, and One Winged flippin' Angel?

FF’s most iconic themes I think are the ones with melodies that permeate into other pieces. I’d rate FF7 main theme and FF8 main themes way beyond anything here.

Heck, even FF7’s main battle music before any of the Sephiroth-related stuff. Didn’t feel that ever got boring and god knows how many times you listen to it.

If only people had a chance to nominate some better themes.

That's not how this works. I don't participate in nominations, then come in and moan about what did get nominated.

I've played nearly every FF from IV to X and genuinely wouldn't recognize the music from any of them unless specifically told that's what it was from.

I can't see voting buttons, am I missing something? I'd pick the Main Theme out of the available choices, although personally I think the FF13 trilogy has the best soundtrack, with FF12 close behind.

If anyone is interested, two Final Fantasy pieces charted on the Classic FM "Hall of Fame" (listener voted) this year, videogame music is mainstream. FF15 at no. 217, and "Final Fantasy Series" (a medley) at no. 120. Only Kingdom Hearts charted higher.

Main theme is clearly the more iconic track, not necessarily the best of the three but 100% the most well known and recognised in association with the series and gaming in general.

But I feel that this is going to be the problem with this contest - tracks will be voted for on whether people like them rather than on how iconic they are!

I think early doors, some of the selections will lean towards the good as opposed to the iconic but the best thing is that the really iconic tracks are also really strawberry floating good (shout out to Magical Sound Shower).

Got some thoughts on how the first round of eliminations should proceed. We're looking at 16 ties and as the thread only allows 1 poll then this is going to take too long. Options include running separate threads for each tie and maybe 4 per day so the forum doesn't get clogged and then locking them once it closes. Or having a single thread where people put their votes in a post for several ties at once. That seems less cluttering but also more work for the user and for me. Any ideas?

This is the problem, iconic doesn't always equate to good. Iconic can often equate to boring (see Halo).

I can't see how the Halo theme is boring, I get chills every time it loads up.

The hate for the Halo theme is all rather odd.
It's one of the most recognisable and well-loved theme's in the industry and got given many awards.
Is it now cool to hate it or something?

Couple of other bits of housekeeping.

1) I realised we needed to add another choice into the main draw as I'd not noticed there were 2 Sonic selections. There was then a draw between Pac-Land and Rocket Knight Adventures and Rocket Knight progressed.

2) I'm going to draw up the fixtures today for the main competition as it's easier than finding time over the weekend. It'll be entirely random and is going to be created using https://anero.id/knockout-draw-generator/. I'll run it once with all the names entered to check it works and the official ties will be the second time I run it. There will be no seedings. We'll then have the votes in batches of 4 from Sunday. Look out for posts across this afternoon with the draw.
