Let’s settle it: what is the greatest games controller of all time?

If I’ve missed anything off the list please let me know!

Was a toss-up between the PS4 and Dualsense for me, but went with the Dualsense as the haptics are superb when used properly.

Sega Fishing Rod is the secret right answer though :capnscotty:

This is a really interesting question, Carlos!

I selected the Xbox S controller (so cute and comfortable), the Wii Remote (it feels so different and it's terrific when paired with the nunchuk) and the DualShock 4 (after almost twelve years it still feels great).

I might have picked the DualSense but I just haven't used it enough yet.

Why is Series bundled with One S? Aren't they different controllers?

I think ultimately the most recent controllers are functionally the best - they've learned lessons from the previous generations and it shows. The Pro controller, Series controller and Dual Sense are all great.

Dual Sense probably takes the win for having the best range of functionality and it feels great in the hand as well (#nocontext)

Bar a share button they’re practically the same. I originally listed them separately but it gave me over 80 poll options. I had to cut quite a lot of peripherals too sadly.

I was never a fan of the DualSense. I think it’s too heavy! For me it’s a toss up between the Wavebird or the 360 pad.

For shame, the poll is missing the Saturn 3D pad with it's hall-effect sensors for the analogue stick and I believe analogue triggers. That is the greatest.

The Wavebird was a classic and I still have a few that I hope work.

But nowadays when I play retro I use adapters with a DualSense controller out of pure convenience so that's up there for the modern choice.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm blind.

I’d have to say the current DualSense, as it’s the first pad I’ve used that’s brilliant for all genres.

The Dual Shock was excellent for a long time but definitely hit the buffers when FPS games really took off, and driving games are comfortable but eclipsed by the Xbox controllers due to the addition of the triggers. Accelerating and braking with X suddenly felt like a step backwards.

Really liked the Gamecube pad, but again like the Dual Shock and first 2 generations of Xbox controllers has its limitations dependent on genre. The Gamecube pad however was built to a much higher standard than the Dual Shock (has a controller ever creaked as much as the DS3?), as was the Xbox S and 360 controllers.

Basically there were always considerations or sacrifices to be made on older pads, and if you had the choice (like I did during the PS2/Xbox/GC era and then PS3/360) the controller would play a role in deciding what format to get a game on. For example PES had to be PS2, and FPS if possible on Xbox.

Who includes strawberry floating Buzz controllers but not the Steam Controller? May as well include the PS2 remote and the EyeToy :x

I'm irrationally angry about this

Between the GameCube pad or Xbox 360 pad for me, went GC though as it still is a comfy, great looking controller.

Xbox 360 controller is perfection, but I'm adaptable.

The Xbox Series pad is comfortable, well laid out, and precise. It's almost perfect. The only minor complaint I have about it is the use of stupid symbols in the Start and Back buttons instead of just calling them Start and Back.
