I think AJ's rep has taken a couple of hits; 1) his obsession with fighting in Saudi Arabia and not in front of his own fans, 2) the fact that he was quite gun-shy for a few fights after the Ruiz loss. Both of these have seen him lose a bit of his shine with the public. He gets flack from me on the first point only, not the second.

Regards FN, no disrespect because he is an absolute monster, but I don't feel Fury really took that fight totally seriously or trained as he should've. Can't prove it obv but that's just my observation from watching that fight. I still think Fury beats Joshua, that said Joshua is more than just a power merchant now, so I think it would hypothetically be closer than, say, 2-3 years ago.

Hoping to catch the last 3-4 fights!

Wild 10th that. Think Huni's ceiling is quite low.

The pacing of this card is outrageously gooseberry fool

Yeah definitely. I thought he edged it enough for me. That's where the champion though often gets the benefit of the judges which is frankly ridiculous. It's like they get given a bonus point just for being the champ.

I’ve always understood it as the challenger has to bring the fight to the holder if it’s a close one, and it certainly seemed that way in the second half to me

I think the only way you get a tied score is if you discard the knockdown but you can’t just go off piste, if the ref declares it a down it’s a down

Comms say that sometimes but it shouldn't impact round by round scoring.

It's easy to get a draw scorecard if you score 2 KDs; tough if you only score one.

I thought the draw was ok; it meant Vargas won 7 rounds which I could see. He was being a spoiling bastard though - the first KD defo wasn't one but I wasn't mad at it.

I thought it'd be easy. I didn't think it'd be that easy.

Like I said yesterday, AJ beats Fury. That was a strawberry floating scary performance. Terrifying right to finish it; Ngannou absolutely folded.

 Holy gooseberry fool.

I haven’t seen the fight yet, but it sounds like I called it so wrong!

Maybe I need to give AJ more respect than I have.

Isn't AJ a massive racist as well? Feel like that can't help his likeability, although people do seem to like to make excuses for him on that.

Slightly surprised that the fight looked so easy, but Ngannou is ultimately an amateur boxer, and it showed. Boxing's such a joke - why is one of the top HWs in the world going up against an amateur? It's just money and sportswashing with zero credibility.

What's this about him being a massive racist?

So can someone help me understand why did Fury struggle so much when Joshua just took him apart? Was Fury just not fit?

Is AJ now able to step up to someone like Usyk or was Ngannou just that poor?

This I was not aware of.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_J ... troversies

Racism controversies
Joshua made a set of comments and social media posts relating to race in November 2017, which led to press controversy. He called heavyweight boxer Eddie Chambers a "disgrace to the superior black race" on Instagram. Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn said the message came from a fake account, but the false claim was debunked when Chambers proved that it had indeed been sent from Joshua's verified account.[249][250][251]

Joshua later appeared to voice support for Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe on Snapchat.[252][253][254] Hearn subsequently stated Joshua has "got a major problem with his social media accounts" and suggested the accounts may have been hacked.[254]

In June 2020, Joshua was accused of racism by some social media users for his speech at a Black Lives Matter protest in Watford, where he said "show them where it hurts, abstain from spending your money in their shops and economies, and invest in black-owned businesses." Press reports indicated that "some" had interpreted this as racist and amounting to a call to boycott white businesses.[255][256] In response, he said the speech was not his own and that he had only read it out on behalf of a friend. He also said, "If you think I'm a racist, go f*** yourself."[257][258]

not claiming to the the authority on boxers, but fury is more of a scrapper and aj was absolutely surgical

it’s true about ngannou being very hard mf but ultimately at this level, an amateur as far as the skill set goes, and after the first knock down I think he slowed, lost the aggression, dropped the guard too much

it was probably a shock for him as I believe it’s essentially the first time he’s ever been dropped and so mentally speaking that would figure heavily into the second round approach and probably, a level of fear he hasn’t had before
