Putin phoned Khabib to congratulate him. Wonder if he asked him the same thing he said in Russian after beating Al Iaquinta earlier this year?

Exactly this and the same goes for Jon Jones as well basically getting a title fight as his first fight back after a suspension. The company is all about what fight will make the most money rather than who deserves to fight who now because the new owners bought it with heavy debt.

Reading through this last page, basically UFC fighters are banana splits.

Brerlappin wrote:Oh man, what a perfect outcome. I dislike Khabib because of his association with Kadyrov so im glad his win was completely sullied, and Conor is a prick so I was strawberry floating delighted to him get absolutely strawberry floating rekt. Its a win win for me  The guy Khabib atackd was Dillon Dainis, who is also a grade A banana split (hes a BJJ black belt, recently signed with Bellator, who comes from a trust fund rich kid background but likes to talk gooseberry fool online like hes from the hood) so strawberry float him too.
I absolutely cant agree that wrestling is boring tho, wtf, like the way Khabib smothered Conor and then absolutely pummeled him in round 2 was beautiful. Maybe you have to have a better appreciation for the ground game but watching him control Conor on the ground was like watching a masterclass. Conors striking looked dogshit, he got rocked on the feet by Khabib, who couldn't even rock Al Iaqunta in striking a few months ago. Between that drama, Derrick Lewis's KO win with 10 seconds to go and his insane post fight speech, and Tony vs Pettis being the bloodiest, craziest fight ive seen in a while this was a great card.

Also if Khabib is stripped or suspended for this, but Conor has no repercussions for literally attacking a bus full of people with 30 of his cronies, then strawberry float everything. Like all this hubbub was in response to that gooseberry fool.

I agree with all of this, thought it was a very good fight.

Was surprised at how poorly McGregor did in his stand up game, he just generally looked a bit lax. He was utterly gassed by the third as well, was out on his feet.

I thought McGregor slightly won the third round and all  Like you and others have said his stand up game was lacklustre throughout the fight, maybe being out the octagon for two years had an effect on that? If he wasn't gonna dominate in that area of the fight, then he had no chance really. Can't take anything away from Khabib though, what a monster that guy is. Just an incredible wrestler.

As for the whole crazy scenes post-fight, I agree with DC. What Conor did, attacking the bus etc was pathetic but two wrongs don't make a right and is no excuse for what Khabib did. For all his faults, McGregor handled the situation really well I thought. Didn't react and cause even more of a shitshow which quite easily could have happened. He's dropped the charges against Khabib and his team I think? Be interesting to see what happens next!

I'm actually going through every single UFC via Fight Pass at the moment and it's absolutely insane to see the beginnings, no rounds, no weight classes etc to where it is now!

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

I would like to echo the media and express my shock and horror that two psychotic cage fighters, after weeks of goading and threatening one another and with millions around the world encouraging them to beat the absolute proverbial out of each other, were unable to contain their aggression at the abrupt end of their pummeling contest and instead continued to be uncontrollably violent and pose a danger to others around them. Who could have reasonably predicted such an outcome?

He went for one of Khabib's cornermen and started throwing punches at him when he was trying to jump out of the octagon  It's in the video at the reddit link I posted.

I think you are right about the third but khabib almost took the round off, Conor was still panting out his mouth and not throwing any real weight behind the shots to my eye.

Watched it twice now, first time in Russian, and I think the English commentary was a bit biased in favour of McGregor. Especially when he was getting ground and pounded and one of them said something like he's waiting for Khabib to tire himself out

On second watch I don't think CM embarrassed himself, he just simply isn't anywhere near as good a wrestler.

Shout out to Ferguson too, what a fight that was.

It is actually pretty strange though, normally you gain great respect for someone after a fight against them.

I think Khabib spits on McGregor straight after the tap out too.

McGregor brought the Khabib hate on himself, obviously during the build up he was doing his usual showmanship nonsense but then he took things further and further and starting getting more personal, kept calling Khabib's dad a rat, snitch and goodness knows what else. He then have a couple of digs at his religion and even offered Khabib an alcoholic drink and when Khabib told him how offensive it was McGregor kept going with it.

Khabib isn't in it to be a character or a showmanship and clearly everything McGregor and his team were saying was getting to him and he couldn't contain his emotions on Saturday night and just exploded.

The way he went after the fight, he did fantastically to contain his emotions so well in the octagon itself.

Yeah I meant after the fight, during the fight he tied McGregor up and wore him out.

Interesting to ponder the 6 fights that Conor signed up to. Assuming Khabib was one of the 6, I imagine something like this for the remaining 5: Ferguson, Diaz, Holloway (at 155), Khabib, 165lb belt (newly created) for a final Diaz fight. Possibly GSP but I don't think he could make 155lbs so that could be the 165lb fight too.

I still refuse to believe people actually talk like that in real life.

Can somebody explain to me why people like McGregor? I can understand getting sucked into the hype of his fights, he's good at shit-stirring and building a buzz, but there are people that seem to genuinely like and admire him and I cannot fathom why. He's an otherwordly prick.
