Realistically how much longer do you think it'll take to get into the same race as Max Verstappen and ram him off the track Demolition Derby style?

It's called a motor race LewisD

I'm in the realms of having to chose a track set and car to buy now if I want to keep moving up. I love single seater races so I'll have a look at what's on offer and see which is rated as being the most competitive.

I don’t remember WRC 8 looking anywhere near as bad on the Switch, but on the flip side, that had atrocious FPS at points so a solid 30 fps is definitely preferred for a racing game. It’s good to see them still releasing it on the Switch though, guessing WRC 11 will release as that’s their last game before Codemasters take over the WRC license :dread: Well, I guess it’ll be their last official game anyway.

Been hopping between racing games on my wheel this evening and just don’t feel like I’ve been in the mood for any of them, I used to enjoy having a 50% race round the current weekends F1 track but I tried F1 2021 again and still just can’t get on with it. Did some time trials at the Nordschliefe in AC and then a couple of races with the Ginetta in ACC but still didn’t feel anywhere near my best in any of the games I loaded up.

Edit, as I just posted in the F1 thread, I finally had what I could say what as enjoyable race in F1 2021 in the first time in a long while! A last to whatever 50% race round Bahrain, in Sainz’s Ferrari and I managed to get 3rd, a couple of seconds behind Bottas and a long way away from Hamilton. To try and get some feel from my wheel I just put all the feedback settings up by between 5 and 10 clicks, means it rattles a bit on the straights but I can at least feel something in the corners now. Might try jumping into a custom 10 race season as the Ferrari. I still think Codemasters miss a trick by not letting you actually race a season as a actual driver and instead forcing you to race as yourself, I’d prefer it if you could race as an official driver personally.

I played some F1 2021 on PC over the weekend too and enjoyed it. Also tried Forza 7 for the first time on PC but had wheel issues. In the control options, if I pre-selected the Loigtech G920, I just had no input at all in game. I managed to manually assign the controls, but then I still had to use a keyboard and mouse for all the menus, which was just a bit of a pain. This is why I've always been a console gamer as I just suck at all the set up involved with PCs.

Codies games in general are really poor with wheels and need a lot of tweaking to feel right.

Far too much when a lot of games are generally at least ok once you plug your wheel in. I’ve obviously got my fingers crossed this will be the case with FM8 and my wheel when FM8 eventually comes out.

FH4 was ok? I’ve not played loads of it so not tweaked the settings too much but I’d say it was better out the box then say F1 2021, but that’s not saying much really

As I said, fingers crossed :shifty: Still barely know anything about it really.

I only really play F1 games on my PS4, but I got the racing Humble Bundle the other day and decided to check out the wheel voucher on it and then started cross referencing against this thread with the wheel chat a few pages ago.

Then I stumbled across £179 for the G920/G29: Amazon

Is this wheel considered the sweet spot for those looking to jump in, but not having to upgrade again later? And is that a good price, as it's almost half RRP (which can mean nothing I guess).

Yeah man that's a bargain.
I was shopping for wheels and went for the TMX instead of the G920 because the TMX was more like £150-170 and the G920 was not shifting from £260 (and out of stock everywhere).

£179 is great. Buy buy buy 8-)

Yeah that’s a great price for it! Just over half what I paid for the slight upgrade to a G923.

I've got an unopened PS4 G29 you can have for £150 delivered if you're interested?

I know it’s a management sim but F1 manager 2022 is certainly shaping up to be looking good at the least.

My Ad7 G29 has arrived and I'm 2.5secs slower a lap with it vs controller at the moment, but really enjoying it.

The current setup of ironing board in front of armchair might grow old fast though. Although my old Ikea desk is too thick to clamp the wheel onto. How are you guys all set up?

It’s definitely a learning curve playing with a wheel, these days I doubt if I’m much quicker with a wheel than a pad in the games where I’ve directly compared my times), as you said it’s just a much more enjoyable experience on a wheel so the times (to me) done really make much difference.

As for what I use for my wheel, it’s a Playseat Challenge, effectively a seat that you attach your wheel and pedals to that can fold away for easier storage. Very good seating position and feels ace when you’re in the zone.

I clamp my wheel to my computer desk and just leave in on the floor at a bit of an odd angle whenever it’s not in use. I’m probably going to try to find a good foldable stand that it can be permanently attached to but for now it doesn’t seem to be coming to any harm.

This is the biggest hurdle when going to a wheel, because logic says it should instantly be faster, but I also found when I got my G27 way back in the day that I was noticeably slower than on my pad (was on GT5 and I could see on my favourite time trial leaderboard). I think it comes from a lack of subtlety in controlling it, as you tend to be quite aggressive and turn more than you need to. Once you learn to actually turn as little as possible and use the pedals as much as the steering, then you get much much faster.

I used to use a wheel stand pro, which was great for a sofa setup, and now I have a playseat challenge. Both fold away nicely.

I managed to par up to my lap time after about 40 laps. I found a better set up for the wheel sensitivity, and crucially set the brake up on the clutch pedal to help with feeling the brakes. Also had to learn to use a foot for each pedal.

S2 in Bahrain was where I am still a little slower, but that is the technical section so to be expected.

But also, I know I could go faster on the pad if I really went for it.
