I’m with Ad, using a Playseat Challenge and Logitech G923, although I’ve gone for the Xbox/PC version, it’s a fantastic set up though, can be racing in a matter of minutes in a really comfy seat and position.

As for my set ups over the years, I’ve gone from the DFGT clamped to a desk, to a PS4 pad, to my current set up as mentioned above. I’m hoping to get a lot of years out of my current gear though!

DiRT Rally is really good, I’ve had a bit of fun with the official WRC 9 game too, there’s a lot of very good racing games out there now.

I keep meaning to pick up a Collective Minds Drive Hub, which should let you use Xbox/PS wheels on the opposite platform. I've got one of their (much cheaper) dongles that let me use an Xbox Controller on the Switch Lite and that works great. It would really only to be able to play GT Sport though (okay, and maybe some Drive Club). My Playseat is in the corner of my living room right now as I've mainly been playing Forza 7 and F1 on Xbox, but in the next few months I want to get a new TV in my office and then maybe move the seat in there full time. I'd then be able to play PC stuff too without having to carry it through the house, and hopefully still play the Xbox stuff through the streaming thing they do with PC. I've been buying up PC racing stuff when they're going for massive discounts, so got Asseto Corsa, Dirt Rally 2 and Project Cars 2 all waiting.

My race from yesterday. This is probably the best race ive had in anything. Well worth a watch if yoive got a spare 10 minutes.

It's great, you really learn the value of giving space and knowing when to concede a corner, sometimes it's better to let it go and then place yourself to get the position back in the next bit, than to just stubbornly hold your line and crash. You can usually tellthe kind of person who won't give up after being close for a lap or so, so sometimes it's better to let them go and let them crash in to someone for you

My qualifying position was 6th, and I finished 2nd.

It is so unbelievably frustrating to put in half an hour of practice, then solid qualifying, then to be punted off while trying to avoid someone ahead spinning at a chicane (you know, where someone would typically spin on the opening lap so you should keep your eyes out). Took avoiding action and then a second later just got smacked off the track, accompanied by a text "wtf?" As if it was my fault he wasn't paying attention (there was plenty of room to move aroind me if you're not trying to win the race in the second corner). Sit in the pits for 3 minutes then trundle around at the back 3 laps down, then lose safety rating for something that's not my fault :simper:

Waste of an hour.

Cheers, it was great fun. You can't really get from a video how hard it is to not drop it under braking, but you can definitely see I'm softer under braking than others, but it gets me much better acceleration so I'm not too fussed.

Had another couple of good races last night, both were just me and this other guy swapping places through the entire thing, with him winning out by 0.046 as we had a drag to the finish line out of the last corner. The track config has pretty much no braking zone you can overtake in to, so it's just slipstreem and trade places that way. I made the mistake of allowing him past on the wrong lap, so when it came to the final lap I was ahead, meaning he got the drive out of the final turn and just got me. Bastard.

I stopped playing iRacing because stuff like this happened all too often. I was used to racing in leagues on rFactor and Race 07 where everything was, for the most part, very clean and fair. iRacing varied too much between fantastic racing and absolute bullshit. That video from Summit Point was fantastic to watch from your perspective, but I just saw so much of the same bs in the background. :(

It's there in almost every race, and if you start outside the top 4 you're almost guaranteed to get in some sort of tangle. I tend to just drive cautiously and brake early in the opening lap now, as people seem to want to overtake with all 4 wheels locked up rather than play the long game. If you can survive someone like that being around you, then you can usually outpace them once the tyres are warm, and either intimidate them in to spinning off, or watch them crash in to the car in front.

When you get in to a race with people who respect and give space though, there's nothing like it.

Currently downloading FH4 to try the series out, going to jump on F1 2021 and do another race or two while it slowly downloads

I’m not 100% sure but actually think the out of the box handling might feel better on Forza Horizon 4 than F1 2021 :fp: Feels amazing on the off road races.

Codies games have gooseberry fool wheel settings. I think only dirt 2 has been any good without endless tweaking, and even thst needed a saturation change.

Jumping between various racing titles is not helping the case for F1 2021 either with regards to its general feel and FFB, seems to go from rather good to nothing. Having tried FH4 is just making me want an update on FM8 even more.

This deserves a thread title change, but by using a custom DNS on one's PS3 you can now play motorstorm 1 online again, no modding or anything like that:

I just tried it and it does work, got a couple of races with about 4 other people before going off for food. Just need a PS3 and a copy of the original game and to change the DNS settings when setting the online options.

Ho-lee gooseberry fool. I can source a console, gave it to the ‘rents as a Netflix player until they bought a smart tv. Copy of the game is surely buttons now.

Best do it now rather than later just in case, it may jump up in price wise due to this. (Unlikely, but I've told myself that and it ended up raising the price anyway on other games!)

Moved my Playseat into the office so I can hook it up to the PC, and if there's some good deals, going to get an Oculus Quest 2 this week.

I saw Automobilista 2 is half price in the Steam Sale and am tempted. Already got Assetto Corsa (the original one), and those two seem to be the popular ones for mod support. I like watching Jimmy Broadbent's videos when he does stuff like drives modern F1 cars on historic tracks and nonsense like that, but he rarely mentions what game he's using. I assume it's very obvious to anyone familiar with them.

Also, it's not really a racing game, but finally going to get BeamNG.drive too as that looks so much like my sort of game.

New gameplay video for GRID LEGENDS:

Out 25th February 2022, so sandwiched between Horizon Forbidden West on the 18th February and Gran Turismo 7 on the 4th March. Literally the two biggest games of the year on PlayStation. And to be honest, it's not even that far removed from Forza Horizon 5 on Xbox, another time sink.

In other words: COMING TO A BARGAIN BIN NEAR YOU SOON.
