Plus now they're under EA's clammy grasp it's going to be maximum 'surprise mechanics'

Just seen that Assetto Corsa Competizione is getting a next gen update in February next year, considering how woeful the performance was on my Xbox One (not tried it on my Series X past a couple of laps when I’d installed it) I’ll be looking forward to giving it a proper go, might see if I can grab the season pass when it’s hopefully on sale between now and next year.

Spend £10 on an F1 game and suddenly I'm looking at PC racing setups, weighing up whether I should go down the PS/PC or Xbox/PC connectivity route.

strawberry float's sake. I didn't ask for this.

This another part of the reason why I opted for one of the PS5 or Series X though (although not enough time was the main one!), most wheels don’t support both until you start spending a lot of money :dread: Already spent about £500 ish on my Logitech G923 and Playseat Challenge which is more than enough considering how much I use it

Tried my wheel on PC for the first time yesterday. Took far too long for me to figure out I had to download some Logitech Hub software first. Even after that, something weird happened with AC where it would map the buttons as I released them instead of pressed them, which didn't seem odd until I went into the game and realised everything was reverted. Brakes, throttle and clutch all acting like they were pressed down when they weren't being touched, and then if you pushed the pedal down it would ease off. Project Cars worked better although I need to play with the sensitivity a LOT before it feels playable. Just an a couple of inches of turn was spinning me out.

Dread to think how much this will cost! Bet Max is going to buy it just to try and get the upper hand on Lewis for the last race by seeing how his car handles

I thought I might have a reprieve with the main Logitech wheels being out of stock but no, there's some new Thrustmaster out for around the same price. This will be "I'm getting into fighting games so let's buy some half decent sticks" all over again. :dread:

Depending on how in to a particular type of racing game will probably sway your compatibility decision, but I'd make sure whatever wheel you go for is great for PC over everything else. There's so much to choose from on pc.

Have you managed to resist buying it yet? That looks great, no reason why the official games couldn’t offer something more sim like than what we get really, what we get it is fun to pick up and play but it feels much more catered to pads than wheels, except Monaco which is just horrific full stop :dread: The wheel is still more fun though but it (F1 2021) just feels off on it, whereas Assetto Corsa is great out of the box on it, the 2017 Ferrari is great on that.

In reality it's a no brainer for me to get a PlayStation compatible one over Xbox as there's always more chance I'll play Gran Turismo over even contemplating getting an XSX. The only issue might crop up with Xbox Game Pass recognising the set up as it doesn't like my DS4 but there are usually ways around that.

I think I'll wait for the G923 to come back in stock.

G923 is a great wheel. I wouldn't bother with the logi shifter though, I've barely used mine as it's pretty gooseberry fool and feels very toy like. The paddle shifters are so much better, unless you really want to role play it with a shifter, in which case I'd probably pay for one of the better third party ones.

And as much as I'd like the Mercedes, it'll probably be £50 on its own, and none of the tracks I have would be suitable for it anyway, apart from maybe Laguna Seca.

£50 is a lot for one car, no matter how well it’s modelled in! You really can’t go wrong with the G923 either, it’s a very good wheel for the price.

I made that figure up btw, but I can see it being pretty pricy.

Can’t even see a price on their site anyway but it definitely won’t be cheap.

Edit, can’t see a price mentioned on Twitter either.

It'll be pretty much unplayable in race conditions too, as the skill level to drive it will be high, meaning if you allow it in lower tier skill levels it'll just be carnage at ever corner.

Ok, Assetto Corsa Competizione is fantastic, I’m pretty slow at it currently but the GT3 are a lot of fun to drive, trying to play it fairly realistically so no stability assist, TC and ABS running on 3 or 4 if it’s wet. You can tell it’s definitely a PC first game though, like with Assetto Corsa there is that many different options available to map to buttons that it’d be impossible to do it just on a wheel alone  I think this is the one game I own that uses the ‘Trueforce’, feels pretty neat as well really. Just trying the career mode currently, think I’d need a lot more (dedicated) time with the game before trying it online, can see that being carnage too :fp:

It plays fairly well on the Series X at the moment, hopefully it’s really good when the official Series/PS5 update is out. Noticed the DLC is about half price for another 5 days as well, although I’m still probably going to wait till the next gen update is out before jumping on that.
