The trueforce support on that game is very good, really adds to the game to the point where the wheel feels dead if you turn that off and play again. It's a brilliant time trial game, and the AI is great fun to race against too. Probably my favourite racer at the moment behind iracing.

I’ve not tried turning Trueforce on and off again so can’t comment on that, likewise I’ve not raced against the ai yet, just about to do the first race in the career mode, will probably try and get that done today at some point. Think I might buy the British tracks before they go off sale just to have some fun lapping round those.

Edit, first full weekend of the career done, probably got the ai set a little too easy to be honest, but I had no idea how quick they’d be prior going into it so just left it on normal I think. Will continue this just to get to grips with the tracks a lot more, Zolder was a really enjoyable track.

I ended up getting a Thrustmaster T300 at the weekend, mostly because it is quieter than the Logitech gear driven wheels and I need to use this in a living room. Plus it was actually in stock.

Takes some getting used to after decades of only using a controller (and not actually being able to drive a car in real life) but great so far in everything except Forza Horizon 5, where the auto centering of the wheel seems way too aggressive.

It begins.

How are you getting on with it after a few more days? Still remember the first time I loaded up Gran Turismo 5 with my DFGT and my mind was blown

Pretty annoyed, I made the decision to - finally - get a steering wheel, and no one has any in stock!

Still undecided whether to go for the TMX or the G920/923.
Don't think I can justify the extra for the G92s as a casual.

I've not used one, but it looks like the TMX is probably enough for you. You won't need the clutch pedal for one thing.

You will be missing out on trueforce though, and while I'd say it's not a feature to make an essential purchase, it really increases the feedback and makes it all more realistic.

It seems to vary a fair bit depending on the game but I'm getting a lot of use out of it with F1. Still glad I bit the bullet.

Have you hit the point where you're properly faster with the wheel yet?

Just had a go on iracing after a long time off playing any racing games. Utterly hopeless with shite pace, and I crashed out of the race having pretty much let people by when they went for overtakes :fp:

I forgot what a horrible feeling it is when you're not on the pace.

Monster Games - the studio that brought us Excite Truck almost two decades ago - has been acquired by iRacing Motorsport Simulations. I wonder if that means iRMS want to start bringing some quality sims to consoles?

EDIT: Digging a bit deeper, iRMS acquired another studio before Monster, with both studios being strong for their racing games. Had no idea that Monster had been doing NASCAR games. No idea on what Orontes Games have worked on, but their site shows a game called Drag. Looking on Twitter, seems they're a small studio and that is their first game? Either way, I'd say it's good for all involved.

I think i need to hold off from racing until i'm back in the groove, because I just had another disaster race. Was following in to a hairpin on the first lap, locked up and was going to hit the car in front, so dived to the inside and saved it, but because the netcode thought we were closer, it took him out like id just shunted him off. He was ranting on the chat calling me an idiot, when from my side I didnt make contact. Then I ended up coming up to lap him 5 laps later, and the banana split was going full Perez and holding me up all the time, backing off in corners and so on. Got along side him coming out of the same hairpin, and again the netcode said we were closer than it looked, only for us to touch and take him out, plus in to the next bit someone got along side and i the hit him on the exit as he was right in my blind spot :fp:

I know I very rarely play online, but even playing offline I experience times when I’m just not in the zone to even be having fun playing racing games. Thinking about it I’ve probably not even loaded one up for the best part of a month, even though when I last played Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione I had a lot of fun, just not felt like it since :(

I think racing games - more than any other - are more draining to play, so you have to be dedicated to wanting to play them. Have the energy to play them. After all, it might just be a game, but there's so much to be aware of - just like in real racing.

That’s certainly how I feel about racing games, I’m torn on ones which have flashbacks too, on the one hand I love them for dire tracks such as Monaco but on the other hand it makes you a much better driver in some ways if you don’t use them, like you know which corners you can go 100% into and which you can’t, you have to line up an overtake rather than just bombing down the inside knowing you can rewind if it goes wrong.

Very much the case. There are two distinct types of racing game:

1. Arcade style - forgiving enough to pick up and play whenever you feel like it and still have a good time. Thing burnout, flatout, driveclub, Forza horizon
2. SIM style - you MUST drive properly or you won't do well. If you're not in the mood to play or don't have a few hours to get in the zone, you won't get anywhere.

I was saying to the Mrs the other night, after playing iracing for about 2 hours straight, I was both physically and mentally exhausted. It requires constant focused concentration, plus you've got the subconscious mental effort reacting to force feedback that you aren't aware of. It's as drainignas driving for half a day in real life.

Had a great race on iracing last night after concentrating on tuning the brake response. Given me a lot more confidence on the brakes and allowed me to brake much deeper in to a corner, which in turn allows for more overtaking opportunities. Started on pole, and was down to 6th by the end of the second lap, mainly due to everyone going full Verstappen and going for overtakes that required me to get out of the way, or we'd both be taken out. Fortunately these same people can usually be relied on to tangle with others so I followed them for a bit, let them make mistakes and got up to 1st by half way with a few proper overtakes. Myself and 2nd place then left the pack behind and had a great close duel for the remainder of the race, with him eventually winning out by 0.086! It was great once we'd parked up that he took to the chat on screen and said how great and fun the race was. So good when you're racing people who give and respect space.

Sounds a great race indeed. And it's nice to see someone complimenting the race after it happens.

It was nice to have a bit of interacrion, as this kind of thing is a pretty anonymous affair once the race is finished and everyone leaves (it doesnt use a lobby). You often wonder if the other people enjoyed the race as much as you did.

I stopped playing racing games years ago because of this. Spending at minimum, several hours practicing and refining setups for a league race on rFactor, then spending 3-4 hours on the full race event was just too much. Sure the racing was good but to be able to perform and drive fair, you needed to put the work in.

I can understand that. Most are probably just after the race and none of the social side of things. But as long as they're as nice as their driving, such social interactions can add to the experience.

Just had my first win in what feels like ages :toot:

Had plenty of seconds but no win. Pretty uneventful race really, started 4th, overtook in to a hairpin, pressured 2nd and he lost it, then was 4 seconds behind the leader thanks to avoiding the other guy. Started putting some really fast laps in and closed to 3 seconds, before he crumbled and spun, letting me through. Pegged the gap at 3 seconds for the remainder of the race :datass:
