If I had even a half capable PC I’d definitely try out iracing, racing on consoles does limit the online side of things to either finding a league or racing in free for all and being punted off at every corner :fp:

Back on F1 2020 anyway, not sure if anyone else has found this but the mixed conditions, while they feel quite accurate for yourself are just woeful for the AI as they seem to stick to dry weather pace for a lot of it until they switch to either of the wet tyres, not sure if this is a bug or whether it’s just been accepted as part of the game (or if it’s literally just me?), makes what should be an exciting portion of the race into getting blitzed past on corner exit. Nearly finished a season though, might just sign for Mercedes (from Red Bull currently) so I’m in the best car if I wanted to do a second season. The F1 games are a lot more fun when you start with a team down the grid though and get that team to somewhere near the top.

Took a punt on BeamNG, and it's a lot of fun just exploring the maps included from the off. Feels more sim-based, which is probably why I keep locking the wheels when turning at high speed, but it's a lot of fun.

Finished off a season in F1 now, signed for Mercedes so now racing alongside Hamilton. More than likely will just spend the rest of my time with the game doing Grand Prix of wherever the F1 is currently racing, if it’s in the game of course.

I forget - do you have a pc at all? Mine is getting on for 6 years old now I think, and I'm running it maxed out with a fps throttle at 144 (so it can go higher). It's not a looker, as it's built for as many people to be able to play it properly as possible, so I think you'd be surprised at how well you could run it.

Really wanted to get into iracing, but the subscription model really put me off it. Shame as am looking for a good vr sim racer

The price always put me off, but they had a year for £20 for new subscriptions. I don't think I'd take a punt on a £200 year sub, but it's pretty good at the moment.

For VR sims, you can't go wrong with Assetto Corsa Competitzione, it's excellent, especially if you have a decent wheel. Bear in mind it's system intensive in VR mode. Kart Kraft us also excellent, very bare bones but a brilliant time trial game and it really feels like you're at a real kart track in VR.

Thanks Victor, was tempted by Assetto Corsa last week as think it's in a Steam deal, will give it a look! :)

Yeah I’ve got a PC, circa 6 years old but it wasn’t exactly good for gaming when I got it (mainly tried out older games on Steam, Age of Empires 2, KOTOR 1&2 and the first Witcher game, which has aged pretty poorly really, mainly just a nostalgia kick ), if it has a free demo I could download it and see what’s what but I wouldn’t expect solid performance really.

Both Assetto Corsa games are really good to play on a wheel (can’t really comment on a pad), think they can both be played in VR too. Just depends what you’re after, Assetto Corsa has a lot more variety in cars and tracks whereas Competizione is focused on GT cars, still with a good range of tracks though.

Assetto Corsa runs much much better in VR (being an older game), and has a lot more variety in cars and tracks. The main downer of it is in VR the interface is terrible. It's like a halo ring around your face, and you have to navigate with a mouse :fp: You have the big benefit of mods with that one though, custom tracks and cars. I've downloaded a few classic gran turismo tracks for example.

Competitzione is a modern game, so far more demanding, but has a proper interface for VR. The track and car selection is limited to GT3 class though, and there's no mod support. The driving model is excellent though.

You can't go wrong with either really.

Rfactor 2 and Project cars 2 are also good.

My gameplay:

AC (custom car)

ACC

Kart Kraft

Excellent to hear as just bought! :toot:

Bought the Competizione version as that was newer and looked shinier :slol:

I have quite a beast of a PC at the moment so hopefully I can push it with VR

Currently downloading and will then have a play about with the wheel later after work. Was really enjoying Project Cars 2 in VR so hope this get's me back into my racing groove.

My pc is running a 1070, so it should be substantially nicer than those videos.

Hi guys,

Feel like a bit of an imposter in this thread - not really a racing enthusiast.
However, I used to love the Xbox 360 force feedback wheel on my 360 back in the day.

Are there any wheels that are comparable to this nowadays without breaking the bank? With the force feedback in the wheel etc?

I'm looking for something to improve the Forza fun in our house :)

Depends what you class as breaking the bank! the price of wheels and racing gear varies a lot to be honest!

If you’re not bothered about second hand, might be able to find a cheapish Logitech G920? Logitech have released a newer model since but the G920 is good for Xbox and PC and will work on the One consoles as well as the Series consoles too so at minimum you’ll get quite a few years out of it (I’m sure Xbox are planning all current controllers to work on all Xbox consoles going forward though?). Not looked how much they are second hand but brand new seem to be about £220 ish from a very quick look. Can’t comment on other brands as I’ve not used them, someone else might be able to chip in on some others.

F1 2021 review, really doesn’t sound worth paying the full asking price of £55-£75 (unless you’ve not bought an F1 game in a few years), classic cars removed, couple of other minor things/modes removed too, if I ever see it on sale for £25 or under I’ll get it just to tide myself over till F1 2022 which will hopefully be on PC and Series XS/PS5 rather than PS4/Xbox One consoles to take a nice step.

As has been said, the logi wheels are good - very sturdy and solid. Good mid entry point wheels.

I wonder what the thinking is with taking out the classic cars in F1 2021? It’s been a growing part of the series since 2013 I think. The story stuff, as good as it might be is not what draws me to the game. Bit disappointing.

I imagine they haven’t renewed licensing for all or some of the classic F1 cars? I’m not sure about anyone else but I only found myself using classic cars in time trials rather than racing them except when you had a invitational event in career mode, just preferred the F2 and F1 cars for racing.

I didn't bother with any of them beyond a few time trials. They're pretty poor in terms of replicating how those cars drive so it didn't feel more than a novelty (in case you haven't guessed, I'm a proper sim snob  )

The look on the McLaren team faces when Codemasters come asking to have a spin in the MP4/4 :datass:

While the F2 and modern F1 cars won’t be anywhere near a proper sim they should in theory be a lot closer than they could ever get with the old ones. Weren’t there rumours a while back of the F1 series having a proper sim, or at least them considering making one in the future? It really wouldn’t be easy for them to get the current season as a proper sim, no teams would want to give them the data to make it really realistic, so maybe a realistic F1 game would be of the previous years cars? But then a lot of players would discount it as out of date. I really need to try out more of the F1 cars in Assetto Corsa as they should be a lot more realistic than what Codemasters offer (which is still an enjoyable package on the whole in my opinion).
