Assetto Corsa Competizione installed and updated, not expecting wonders on the base Xbox One but I’m going to try a few laps out on it with the pad before my seat gets here at the end of the week. On the topic of the seat, does it come with screws so you can screw the wheel to the seat or do the clamps suffice?

Also I’ve had a look at the Xbox/Microsoft store while it was updating and that seems to imply that WRC 9 will be taking advantage of smart delivery, not seen anything from the developer yet mind but I suppose it could mean the PS4 to PS5 will get similar treatment?

Edit,

Hmmm, few laps round Brands Hatch and I’m tempted to wait till I upgrade the box before giving a final verdict on it (ACC), looks good enough but performance is quite, shall I say choppy at times? Also on the pad stability assist is a god send, few times already that’s saved my lap and I’ve only put a few laps into it!

You don't ever want to be using the clamps when youve got an option to hard mount the wheel. I think it comes with two bolts, but if not it's a standard sized thread too can easily source yourself. The pedals are held by a Velcro strap, which is a bit gooseberry fool tbh as my old wheelstan pro had a hard fixing for those too which was much better.

Launches into Gamepass too!

This looks like it's going to be brilliant.

According to the end part details, it's not coming out on PC...just Steam.

Looking on Amazon it mentions screws to securely fix, doesn’t say what but I’m guessing these will be for wheels.

Playseat challenge has just arrived, will be setting it up once F1 qualifying has finished :toot:

Edit, this is bloody fantastic! Tried it with Assetto Corsa, DiRT Rally and F1 2020 and it’s just so much more fun than a controller, I’d forgotten how much I’ve missed it. The wheel feels fantastic, I can see what you mean about the subtle rumble in Assetto Corsa, nabbed some settings for a G920 off of YouTube for F1 and it feels alright, could be better. Nice to know my setup is good for the next gen (at least, it’d be nice if it was at least supported past this gen) as well though, can’t wait to try the likes of WRC 9 and Forza with this setup as well.

Edit 2, ended up spending about 4 hours across the 3 racing games I can currently play on Xbox, still enjoyed F1 2020 the most out of the 3 but I think the performance of ACC doesn’t help my experience, neither does needing to relearn how to play a rally game with a wheel but the stages are nowhere near as good as those on WRC 8 in my opinion so I think WRC 9 will see a lot more play time than DiRT Rally will do.

Awesome, was coming in here to ask how you were getting on as your edits didn't bump the topic.

Shame ACC seems sub par on console. The driving model is amazing though and the ai will actually race you.

I think I’ll wait till I can play Assetto Corsa on the Series X before giving the single player/ai races a go, as even just in hot lap mode it felt a bit rough at times, felt really nice on the wheel though so I think it’ll be good on more powerful hardware (at least I’m assuming it’ll run better on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X so subsequently the Series X should as well, I hope anyway). So I think in the short term F1 2020 will be my go to racing title, which isn’t a bad thing as its a really good racing game.

I’m amazed how small the Playseat Challenge folds away as well, you can just chuck all the lose cables into the seat portion as you fold it up so you don’t have those trailing anywhere. Only minor criticism is how the pedals fold up, its got a tiny Velcro strap to attach to the bar on the pedal base but it just doesn’t seem to hold it? I might try using more of the Velcro straps it supplied (I guess for cable management?) to see if that’ll hold them in place but if not I’ll get myself something decent to keep them in place, or just lean it ever so slightly so they don’t fall down. Having the wheel and a seat good to go in a couple of minutes is just too good to pass up though, really happy with my purchase.

Safe to say I’m loving it!

Decided to set up the Xbox in the living room as it’s a much newer TV than the one the Xbox is normally hooked up to, even on the base Xbox One F1 2020 looks fantastic! As I’ve said previously, F1 2020 is my go to at the moment until I get my Series X when I can give Assetto Corsa another go and WRC 9 when they update it for next gen. It’s just so much more fun with a setup like I have now than a pad or even a wheel attached to a desk, really can’t see myself going back :)

Nice :)

There's no going back to an upright seated position when you've tried something llike that.

I've just picked up Project CARS 2 on PS4 for £6.

I've not played a racing game since Gran Turismo 4.

Any tips?

Practice, practice and practice! Really is the best way to get better at racing games. Generally try and be smoother with steering and throttle/brakes (brakes if you’re not using abs, if you are just slam them on as late as you dare :lol!).

Also, gotta go fast! :D

Go on a track with a slow car in time trial, put assists on and drive slowly, learn the layout then start pushing

I've started a new career in the karting league.

Lots of content in this game. The options and settings you can tweak seem to be endless.

Really liking this.

I've found a controller settings set up on reddit that has made it way more enjoyable. It feels a bit more arcadey now I've turned down the steering deadzones.

Would be good to win things as I'm getting through the career mode. I remember GT would give you new cars.

Quite fancy picking up a racing game as it has been awhile. What are the best racers this gen on PS4?

I've never played a Gran Turismo, but im far from an enthusiast and wouldn't have the patience to play for hours learning tracks and cars-so is that one to avoid?

I got Project Cars 2 for £6 on the PlayStation store and I'm finding it quite enjoyable. Don't know if it's still on sale.

Best racing game I've played in years, and probably my game of the generation. It's gone from the PlayStation store, but you could pick up a physical copy.

Tried out a karting simulator called KartKraft today. It's incredibly basic, only has a few tracks, but the driving model is fantastic so I spent a good couple of hours just hot lapping. Got up to the top 30 in the UK which was pretty good. It's really immersive in VR too, really felt like I was sat in a kart at times.

Only experience of karting in a game is from GT6, from what I remember they were quite accurate though as they were properly skittish which is kind of what it’s like at some points when I’ve been karting in the past, not been in ages though :(
