I love the way karts handle, because for the first lap you'll be spinning out and oversteering so much, then within a few laps you're almost constantly keeping the back of it loose, it feels almost weightless. It's crazy how much grip you have when you get used to how to brake, you can arrive at a corner full pelt, tip the back around and sail through. I find the biggest challenge to be keeping enough momentum for the engine to not bog down.

I'll record some gameplay next time I go on it.

I rebought Driveclub on a whim for £5 posted, I had all the dlc I think so will just keep it around to play every now and again if I fancy something less po-faced than Gran Turismo.

Got back onto F1 2020 after a fairly long hiatus from it today, done another race in the My Team mode (China, I really hadn’t played much of three career mode, preferring to jump into whatever track they were racing round in the actual F1 if it was in the game), dropped the difficulty by a couple of notches but to offset that put it into cockpit camera rather than offset T-cam and got a point. Reckon I’ll leave it as is until I get back into the swing of it.

Also going to look out for WRC 9 being on sale again as I hesitated on buying it when it was just 50% off, hopefully it’ll be on sale again soon enough as I imagine it’ll be cracking with a wheel (as WRC 8 was very good on the Switch).

Sorely tempted to download the standard Assetto Corsa now it’s on Game Pass too and buy the Ferrari dlc so I can drive the 2017 Ferrari F1 car.

Um... Should we be worried about this?

EA in control of Codemasters? I'd hope nothing bad comes from this, and they're still allowed to operate as normal. Could easily rob us of great games, but could also give Codemasters free reign on reviving Burnout. We'll just have to see what happens.

Where is a good place to get a basic seat/rig? I'm just looking to get myself a wheel to make driving games a bit more immersive and fun. I last had one back in the PS2 days but just did not have the set up for it. It was either on my lap or a crappy little table that would move too easily.

Depends how much you’re wanting to spend? The Playseat Challenge is great, foldable (even with wheel and pedals attached), really comfy and feels what you probably imagine sitting in a proper racing car to feel like (well it does to me anyway, not that I’ve ever sat in a racing car), only thing is it’s currently selling at £155 on Argos (I bought mine for £165 off Amazon back in August/September) and while I’ve not used it a great deal, when I have it’s been fantastic! As I said, really comfy, adjustable with the seating position (more laid down or upright pretty much) and pedals, feels really solid when you’re using it too, in the pictures it looks a bit basic but it doesn’t feel it when you’re in a race.

So yeah I fully recommend it, Victor has one as well unless he’s upgraded since recommending it to me. X Rocker do have a similar one which is around £90. Probably always a few on EBay which you can try and get a bit cheaper. If your TV is on a desk I used to just pull up a chair and clamp my wheel to the desk when I first got a wheel, pedals underneath with some books between them and the wall to stop them slipping as the carpet grips were next to useless on the DFGT

Edit, what platform do you play on? I have a Logitech DFGT knocking about somewhere if it’d be any use to you?

I've got wheel mounts, the first one I got (but don't use now) is the Wheel Stand Pro

https://www.wheelstandpro.com/products/ ... -deluxe-v2

It's great in that it folds up for storage with the Wheel mounted to it, and it allows you to sit on any chair (like your sofa) and play from there.

I wanted something more SIM based but still able to store it away while not in use, so I got a Playseat Challenge:

https://www.playseatstore.com/playseat-challenge.html

This is a reclined seating position so is much more the sim feel, plus the pedals are fixed to the base so push in had on the brakes won't push your chair back like with the Playseat.

Both are great, but the Playseat is the best of the two.

Playseat looks perfect for what I'm after! Thanks!

Planning to use it mainly for Series X (well, Xbox One games on Series X), and PC. Was looking at probably getting a Logitech G920 or a Thrustmaster TMX.

I’ve only had two wheels and they’ve both been Logitech ones, very good value for money in my opinion (although I can’t comment on Thrustmaster ones, I think they’re meant to be good value for what you pay as well) but as with the various seats out there, sim racing can very quickly spiral out of control cost wise! Although if I literally only played racing sims I could kind of be tempted to splash out on a Fanatec setup myself!

Well, today was expensive! Ordered a Playseat Challenge, Logitech G923, plus a shifter, and a third party shifter mount for the seat. I'm fortunate that my job is not affected by Covid other than them using it as excuse to avoid pay rises in 2020, but most of my ways of spending my money have been affected.

I'm very close to ordering one of those drivehub devices so I can use the set up on PS4 too. It's so hard to choose which console to get a wheel for when you play on them both. I've just got a Series X and Gamepass so that's why I've gone for the Xbox wheel, but trying GT Sport in VR while using all this set up is definitely something I'd be eager to try. Although if it was that amazing, I'd only end up wanting a PC VR headset.

I went down the rabbit hole of checking youtube for reviews of the Playseat and wheel, and that led to looking at some ridiculously but expensive custom rigs people have.

Nice one :toot: I've got the 'lowdown shifter' mount for my gear stick, but as the logi one is gooseberry fool, I rarely use it. I often thing I'll get a proper stick one day to replace it but tbh paddles are the better option 99% of the time. The shifter is good when driving an old cobra or something, it really adds to the classic car feeling.

I was playing driveclub VR a lot over the weekend, it's bloody great. GT sport is only VR in time trials and some crap 1 on 1 races that are so easy you never see the other car. Word of warning - once you try VR racing with that setup there is no going back, I guarantee you'll then be buying a pc like I did  PC vr is so strawberry floating good for racing.

I got a PC last March, and it's a decent spec although I've just been using it for typical PC games like Football Manager and Planet Coaster so far. I think I've got quite a few driving games sitting in my library from humble bundles. What's the most widely supported PC VR? There are so many to choose from.

Even though I'm an owner, I'm pretty out of the loop as my headset is an original Vive (albeit with some upgrades). I think as long as it's steamVR compatible in some way, you're good. Oculus seems to be the better headset to go for if you're going to play mainly seated (or at least it was). I plan on making a big pc upgrade, maybe this year, and will likely upgrade to a new vr system while I'm at it.

Speaking of VR, I've been playing a lot of gran turismo sport in VR this weekend. Played a lot of time trials (sadly you only play your own leaderboard, there's nothing online about the vr only mode), and then played some drift stuff, setting up a NSX stupidly grippy fronts and wooden rears, so the thing wants to swap ends constantly. I then went back to time trial and selected the nordschelife, realising I've not driven it at all in this (I've barely touched the vr mode). I selected the NSX to drive, completely forgetting the setup I had applied. It was strawberry floating wild  Every single corner felt like the car was trying to kill me, but I was going flat out and it was so exciting, some of the best car control I've ever had I think.

Box.co.uk cancelled my wheel order as they said they're not sure when they will get new stock in. They were the only ones that seemed to have it at the time (Argos and Curry's had it for collection in store only but no matter how far away I tried they said there were no stores with stock). Amazon look like they've got stock in now though. £50 more but I've had the seat, shifter and shifter mount sitting here for 2 weeks so I've ordered for next day delivery.

Edit: Literally the next day they get new stock. FML.

Edit 2: I love this thing!

Took me far too long to set up, particularly working out how to remove the clamps from the shifter so I could probably install it on the lowdown shifter mount, but I've had so much fun this afternoon.

Started out playing Forza 6 as I was playing it anyway. Just put it on free practice so I was doing laps on my own in a Ford Fiesta. Initially was spinning all over the place and finding breaking rather difficult. As I was just driving and not racing, I decided to try Forza Horizon 4. Again, I wasn't really playing the game, was just driving various cars, and it was going quite well, although when I do start to lose control, that's it.

Decided to give F1 2019 a bash since it's on Game Pass. I'm not really an F1 fan at all, and I don't know if it's just because I didn't have the prior experience on a gamepad, but I found this the easiest to get to grips with and ended up playing it for hours.

It's definitely going to take some time to get used to using a wheel, but even though I've never been able to play with manual gears on a gamepass, I'm finding it so natural with the shifter and clutch pedal (or the paddles for F1).

Really good to see you’re enjoying the new setup! I’m no faster with a wheel than I was with a pad but it’s just so much more fun and engaging. I’ve not actually played any racing games in a while now, think I might change that tomorrow and do a couple more races on my F1 2020 career. I really am going to get WRC 9 next time its on sale too! I can’t wait for the next Forza game, been a while since I’ve played one.

I highly reccomend it. It's early access and pretty barebones, but it's a dedicated SIM of karting and pretty damn realistic. You'll spend your first laps swapping ends the second you touch the brake, or snapping violently when you steer, but once you learn the technique it's like you're dancing on air. I love it.
