I would say Grand Prix Legends but not only is it a sim, it's rock hard. Very enjoyable though.

Possibly the hardest racing game of all time  I learned to race properly thanks to that game though, so there is that.

https://www.gplworld.de/en/grand-prix-l ... -2020-demo

If you can then find a download of the CD files, you just drop those in the relevant folders in the demo and it'll work (the game is about 30 years old now).

No problem. The game is so old, it actually predates force feedback wheels. People used to use flight sim yokes to get analogue steering.

I fired up Assetto Corsa (PC) just now for a quick blast before the kids arrive. While I've tweaked it enough to comfortably use a control pad (yeah, I know! :dread: ), I really do need to invest in a wheel. Been a while since I've played it and there seems to have been a few updates, particularly where optimisation is concerned.

Man, I'd totally forgotten about GP Legends, but that's a huge hit of nostalgia. I remember PC Gamer raving about it.

I know this is a long shot, but has anyone used Xbox Remote Play to play through their PC? Right now I'm finding the hassle of moving my seat and wheel means I'm just using it on the Xbox in the living room. I'd really like to start playing stuff on PC too, so was thinking of just moving it all to my office and then playing Forza 7 and F1 2021 via remote play. Everything is connected via ethernet, so not sure how much an issue lag will be.

Speaking of wheels has anyone any recommendations? I've a budget of around £120. There's lots online but reviews are all over the place.

What platform are you mainly playing on?

Edit, F1 2021 does not feel good in the wet conditions at all :dread:

PC predominantly. Something that will work a treat with the likes of Assetto Corsa.

For £120 you can get something like this. I sold the same, minus the stand and shifters, a few months back (bought it from Falsey yonks ago) and the typical price was within your budget.

Fantastic gear if you can get it. Only downside is that the old Fanatec software doesn't work particularly well with Windows 10. I couldn't get it open, but it didn't cause any issues in-game when testing. Just couldn't see pedal/wheel response outside a game.

edit: In fact looking at it, the wheel might have the same issue mine did. Either well used or not stored in its box and the soft rubber has gone bad. Not sure, but it's something to look out for as you could knock a few quid off, and just remove it yourself. The load-cell on the brake pedal can also fail. It'll still work, but you won't have as much customisation.

It you’re interested I’ve got a Logitech DFGT that’s been sat in the loft for the last few years that you can have to try stuff out on a wheel, it’s no good for new consoles but should be fine for PC, if you’re interested I’ll dig it out at some point over the next couple of days and make sure it powers up (although I won’t be able to fully test it, but it worked perfectly when it went away), I’ve no idea how it fares with Windows 10/11 though? I found it was a very good wheel all in all and I’d be more than happy to send it your way for free if you’re interested as it’s doing sod all sat in the loft currently

Robbo

That'll be a great starter wheel! I started with a Microsoft sidewinder force feedback wheel when I got in to GPL and F1 99-02 on my pc. While nothing amazing, I used it enough to eventually know spending a bit more on a better wheel (G27 at the time) wouldn't be a waste of money.

I’ll find it out later on today (the loft is, safe to say a bit of a mess ) and turn it on to make sure it at least powers up so I’ll drop you a message for your address later on hopefully! As Ad said, it should be a very good starter wheel, from my use the wheel it’s self was great but the pedals were lacking, but when I paid about £80 ish for it I didn’t think the pedals would be anything amazing as you can spend circa £300 just on pedals these days.

Edit, managed to find it and at least load it up on on a laptop still running Windows 7, wheel started up fine and calibrated itself as per normal and could definitely feel the resistance when trying to turn it, I couldn’t check the pedals as don’t have any racing titles (or even Steam) installed on this laptop but presume they’ll be fine. Only thing being sat in the loft, subsequently getting very hot at times is some of the plastic grips on the wheel have that tacky residue on them so will try and get that sorted when I get chance later on today.

Gemini, I’ve tried to get as much of the tacky residue/feeling off the main grips on the wheel as possible with soap and water but there’s still a little on there when its dry, I would have rubbed something like Vodka onto it (as thats meant to get it right off) but don’t have any! Just drop me a PM with your address and I’ll get it sent off when I get chance over the next couple of days, it’s not ideally packed but it seems pretty solid with the couple of bits of cardboard I’ve put in there and hasn’t moved too much when I’ve shook the box
