GR Racing Thread - now under new (F1) management

Didn’t Codemasters buy the Driveclub studio as well? I think the name is partly to do with my lack of excitement for it, Project CARS 1&2 were heavily towards the simulation fan so going backwards in this regard and still calling it Project CARS 3 when this clearly isn’t wasn’t the best move, calling it something else would have probably been better.

Part of the driveclub team are at codemasters and have made dirt 5, the game director of driveclub is at sms and has worked on pc3.

Looks like my wheel will be getting delivered tomorrow :toot:

working all weekend (and F1 in the afternoons of course) though so might click and collect the seat from my nearest Curry - PC World on Monday after work and then give it a go on Monday evening or Tuesday, can’t wait to see how it feels sitting in a proper seat with a wheel, last time with my DFGT I just had it clamped to the desk.

Remember that the trueforce part has to be supported, it's not always on, so if the game doesn't have support then it'll just behave exactly like a regular g29.

Oh and for the love of god don't try adjusting the big Velcro arms while sat in the seat unless you want a broken back :oops:

I’ll be getting Assetto Corsa Competizione as well, looking on Curry’s site it’s £1 more expensive than I can see online so might just pick that up when I get the seat, mainly to try out the trueforce as I expect F1 will remain my go to racing game till the likes of WRC 9 and Forza come out for the Series X in the future.

Take it the Velcro arms tip is spoken from experience? :lol:

The thing sits in a scissor configuration, and only the Velcro arm straps hold it in place. You adjust the level of how upright or reclined you are with them, and I adjusted it with the wheel attached, and when I took the tension off the arm strawberry float me did it slam to the ground. If you were sat in it like that you'd probably really hurt yourself!

A friend is sharing PC3 with me over the weekend, so I should be able to post some impressions of it at some point soon.

might quickly set it up this evening to make sure it’s all working with a couple of slow laps on F1 2020 (won’t exactly be able to clamp it to anything right now for a meaningful session) before I order my seat for collection on Monday. Looks and feels very good, after only having used the DFGT it’s amazing how much feel the pedals have, like there’s proper weighting to each of them whereby on the DFGT’s pedals the brake was just a little bit harder than the throttle. Can’t wait to get stuck into F1 2020, DiRT Rally (shamefully forgot I had that for Xbox :lol:

) and Assetto Corsa :toot:

Any PC/PS3 racing fans want a DFGT? Will need to find it first (in the loft I think :dread:

I really wouldn't use F1 for your first impression, because it's pretty gooseberry fool imo. I've not played in a few weeks but it feels like the general turning resistance isn't on, but all the other forces are. Very strange.

Xbox, decided a few months back that I was going to go for the Series X over the PS5 so bought F1 for the Xbox.

Just had a very quick go with my wheel, all works

First was F1 2020, set difficulty to easy and set up a 5 lap race round Austria, quickest lap time was 1.09 which I didn’t think was awful considering I was holding it onto/ever so slightly into my legs. Felt alright but definitely needs some work. Next up was DiRT Rally, I lasted a corner :lol:

didn’t bother continuing after that! Reckon DiRT will be fantastic once it’s hooked up to the Playseat Challenge and will be good fun till WRC 9 comes out, looking forward to trying Assetto Corsa Competizione as well when I get that.

Not sure when I’ll be getting the Playseat Challenge now, was £35 cheaper on Amazon rather than Currys or the official site so that’s paid for Assetto Corsa Competizione with £10 change, only slight issue is it’s out of stock :lol:

I had about an hour and a half on it this morning, and I'm pretty unimpressed. First thing that hits you is this gaudy mobile game type presentation, and a TOTALLY RAD AND STREET voice over lady who is saying how COOL it will be to OWN YOUR OWN WHEELZ :lol:

I don't give a gooseberry fool, but that's the tone it's giving you. You're forced in to a race first thing, which was laughably easy (but then it's serving as a tutorial). I did the first tier of events with all assists off to supposedly put at SIM settings. This is nowhere close to being a SIM. It's very much need for speed, grid and driveclub like, which is great if you're after that, but this is PC3, and if youre calling it that then I don't know why you'd do this.

It looks strawberry floating awful too, exacerbated for my due to using VR, but it looks like a mobile game for the most part, very very poor.

I did have a go on the rivals mode, which to be fair I did really enjoy. You get 20 attempts to set a time and that's that. This means there's some pressure to every lap, plus you have a chance to set a top time as nobody can just sit and spend a day lapping one track to get thst one perfect lap ( :shifty:

). I ended up 7th overall on one of those. It was good fun, but the handling is so strange, 90% of the time it's like grid, then you touch certain curbs and it's like a SIM setting is trigger and it gives you tail happy physics for a few seconds before gluing to the track again.

Here's some of my hot lap gameplay. Note the amazing graphics and totally realistic SIM handling :lol:

Edit: oh yeah, in each race I was able to overtake the entire field within a couple of corners, sometimes half the cars in one go.

As I previously said I wasn’t planning on getting it anyway but still, not great.

Edit, WRC 9 is reviewing well (WRC 8 was ace, even on the Switch) so again, can’t wait to play it with a wheel, I’ll be waiting for the Series X version though, can’t make out if its a free upgrade or not though? Also my Playseat Challenge should be here between the 3rd and 6th of September..... excited is probably an understatement :lol:
