It's also 100gb, which is absolutely mad. This year I've played Dirt 1, 3 and now 4 so I think once I finish the latter I'll have gotten my rally fix for the foreseeable future; I should at least try Forza Motorsport 7 before horizon 5 drops too.

I've been playing burnout paradise (yet again) on the switch recently. Its been a long time since i last played it, but its still great fun.

Also, I managed to comfortably top the timesheet in a practice session in iracing last night. Time to have a race next I think.

Had my first race this evening. You get a one shot qualifying lap before, with an out lap, hot lap and in lap (so it's up to you to prepare tyre and brake temps on the out lap). I got pole by 0.1 :toot:

It was a standing start, I didn't get away well so had 2nd right along side me going in to the first long right hander. I was very cautious and hugged the inside, but he turned in just a bit too much, I clipped and spun him, then ran over his wheel trying to go around and ended up flipped upside down in the tyre wall :fp:

Had to wait 2 minutes to be recovered and repaired, so was over a lap down, but managed to unlap, myself up to 9th, and got fastest lap.

Was great fun, but annoying to get taken out of contention so early on (pure racing incident). I have video of it so I'll post thsst next time.

Now it's finally cooled off enough to do so, o got my pc VR kit out again.

Tried iracing with it, and holy gooseberry fool it's amazing! iracing is fast becoming my favourite ever SIM game, and I was so immersed last night. I'm getting really fast now I've learned the tracks I have, and if I'd strung my best sectors from the session together, I'd have had a top 10 global time on the one I was lapping (it gives you an optimal time from your sector splits).

My Formula Vee

Cheers. The Nvidia video record had switched itself off and I forgot to save the in game replay :fp:

Got pole again (2 from 2), Made a clean start and just took it easy. Lapped up to 4th in the end as a lot of people were overdriving, and had some very near misses with people spinning right in front of me. Also, when lapping one guy, he left the door right open going in to a tight slow turn, then just turned in on me and flipped himself over, netting me 4x collision penalty points in the process.

The old Verstappen/Ocon moment from Brazil 2018 then?

Who knows, you might come up against Norris and Verstappen as I’m sure they both enjoy playing iRacing when not racing (which probably tells you how good iRacing is if F1 drivers play it in their downtime).

It's so good, might well end up as my favourite ever SIM if this keeps up (although it is bloody expensive).

As for Norris and Verstappen, you can get in sessions with them, but there's a licence system in place (well, it's a safety rating). You need to have a certain amount of clean races/sessions before you can progress out of the amateur leagues, which I currently reside in. Will need a few more good sessions to get promoted. Those two are unsurprisingly in the top league, so it'll be a long long time before I'm even able to join that kind of session.

Speaking of progress, race 3, win 2 tonight :toot: Took pole again too, so that's 3 from 3. Completely botched the start, getting stuck in neutral once moving (Not sure if it was a glitch or I just had too much revs going to upshift), so I got swamped by about 5 cars. As before, people were overdriving so I just kept my distance and after 3 corners, I was up to second again. The best thing about it all being real people is you can apply racing psychology - why go for a risky overtake when you can pressure someone instead? I was miles quicker than this guy, and within a lap I was all over his gearbox (context). I just swarmed around him and kept glued to him through the tricky bits, and sure enough he tried too hard to stay ahead and ran wide. I then dropped him at a second a lap and won by 10 seconds with no incidents. Got a replay and VR footage too this time, so ill edit that together at some point.

So good :datass:

Those 4x penalty points won’t do you any favours for getting your safety rating up then! Although I imagine it doesn’t take too long to undo a mistake? Sounds like you’ll be out of the amateur league soon after your first 3 races. What cars are you racing in? Are you sticking to one in particular or mixing it up a little?

I’ve just been playing a bit of Assetto Corsa (time trial mainly, do mean to try the career mode on it) and F1 2020 this evening, obviously played a 25% race at Spa with the F2 and F1 cars with the F1 this weekend.

I'm going between the mx5 and formula vee at the moment, although all races have been in the Vee as I'm really in the zone with it currently. Tbh I'm way above the skill level for the category I'm in (it's the entry point for everyone who has a subscription), I just need to clear enough races cleanly to move to the higher skilled stuff. Getting penalty points deducts from the SR you get at the end of a race. You start on 2.50, and have to get to 3.00 to be promoted. 1 win with 4x points got me to 2.56, and a win with no points got me to 2.80, so it's all on not getting any penalties.

Assetto Corsa is a great time trial game (assuming you mean that one and not ACC). Look out for tracks that people have made, as there's some great ones. I downloaded a few from gran turismo that had been converted for example.

Yeah I mean AC rather than ACC, not put much time into either of them but just prefer the much wider range of cars in AC as opposed to ACC. All my racing is on console so no mods for me sadly!

Another win or two and you should easily be into the next SR category.

I enjoy watching iRacing streams, although I'm nowhere near good enough for something like that yet. It just feels so much closer to an actual race day than a video game.

It really does. There's a real event atmosphere to the tracks, like even pitting in feels like your really going to park up in your box rather than just going to a glorified menu screen. The strictness of the SR rating is key to it I think, no rage quitting or dickhead moves, youve really got to treat it like it's real with a real consequence to everything. Tyre temp is very realistic, you have to build your speed over a few laps before you're at racing speed (which is why it's so easy to mess up on the opening lap, or why I'm seemingly so fast for qualifying, as I use the out lap to prepare tyre and brake temps, where i assume others are just lapping normally).

I've really gotten back into racing games recently and have been loving Rush Rally Origins on the Switch, it's a top down rally games for Android, Apple and the aforementioned Switch. It's so much fun and really intuitive controls!

I've been posting some strong times too, battling in the top 5 for a few of the stages on the world leaderboards. If anyone else plays or is interested hit me up, will be cool to get more people to compete with!

Also I'm quite looking forward to WRC 10, anyone else excited? :D

Some guy called Dominic Spoon or something recommended Rally rush, and I got it. It's pretty tricky despite its looks (kind of hard-core micro machines!) But it's worth picking up, especially at it's stupidly low price of £5.

I very much doubt I’d be quick enough and consistent enough to have a good go at iRacing either but it does seem to nail the setup and feel of a proper track/race day with how you prepare for the various sessions.

I still need to play WRC9 that I bought for £3 or £4 when it was on sale and a slight technical glitch happened to let people buy it that cheaply, so probably won’t be getting WRC10! Just waiting for F1 2021 to go on sale (hopefully 50%) before getting that, annoying that there’s no time scale for the 3 missing tracks to be added in yet.

What are the options for racing games with split screen multiplayer on PS5?

I'm presuming it would have to be a PS4 game. I'm basically looking for something to play with my fiancee but she has never played games before so probably needs to be more arcadey than sim.

Don’t really make a habit of playing different racing titles back to back but I’ve just done that with Assetto Corsa and F1 2020, both round Spa (AC using the 2017 Ferrari) and it’s almost embarrassing how much better AC feels and drives. Speaking of handling, Codemasters are releasing a new handling model to some of the top league racers and releasing it to everyone else in a few months so they’ll have a bit of an advantage when it’s released fo everyone, not that it makes much difference to me of course.

Also tried WRC 9 with my wheel finally and boy does it vibrate a lot for some reason? Even with the overall vibration setting at 25 out of 150 :dread: think I’ll need to Google what’s up with this one!
