GR Series of Poker 2009 - SYKES WINS MAIN EVENT!

Bleh. Bubbled with A9 vs 22. Lots of outs on the flop (a pair on board, so 6 outs to make a better two pair and kicker, 8 outs for the flush (I think) and a 9 or an ace, so another 4 outs=18 outs

)

I think that's right. Good game though.

I didn't play very well (and I have a video to prove it). Sucked out a couple of times otherwise I probably would have been 1st or 2nd out. I think I was concentrating too much on the other two tournaments I was playing.

I didn't like the flat calls in the blinds both times as you are out of position the entire hand. Should be re-raising there IMO. The fact that you took chips from me both times doesn't necessarily make it a good play.

This combined with the Omaha hand, it's becoming something. :lol:

Congrats Sykes on the ME win and with being Player of the Year.

No bracelets, but third in the overall ranking and overall I've recorded a profit and third overall in the standings. Don't think I could have done much better overall, got my money in ahead for an all in or a called all in every time, bar the one time Sixes vs Kings of Drum. That fateful heart on the river to save Sykes was what has cost me in the end, but hey ho....thats why we love poker.

Quite pleased with the way I played there. I tried to stick my policy of keeping pots small throughout unless I felt it was a good situation to go for it, which seemed to reap it's rewards. Thanks for the congrats all. 8-)

Well I gave it a good go. I think if I'd gone out something like three hands later I would have finished fifth instead of seventh. I made too many bad calls although I think I had to go for the hand that knocked me out. Well played, Sykes

Yeah very well done Sykes. I thought you deserved the Omaha, so at least you won a bracelet. That HU was very tough, ground my way back into it, but went too far with a weak Ace, and not cost me I think. Shame the Eights didnt come through against the A-J, but I would have taken that race any day of the week for a double.
