I'm the definition of a casual player so yeah

I tend to float between lots of game at once and rarely settle on a single game that dominates my playtime (Elden Ring being the only one in recent years  ) but I don't have any racing games and it's an obvious gap in my library.

strawberry float it, I've ordered this as I just need to scratch that itch and I watched the Digital Foundry review of the PS5 version and it just looks superb.

Should arrive tomorrow, just in time for a rare free evening to myself in front of the TV :toot:

If you check my posts in the previous pages and I loved it. It's probably the best Gran Turismo ever I've played. :datass:

I've put a decent amount of hours into this, here's my take so far:

Pros:
- graphics are AMAZING, it runs extremely smoothly and everything just looks hyper-realistic. Truly a WTF IS DIS REAL scenario.
- handling is fantastic, the Dualsense really fights you on the triggers when it comes to heavy braking, very impressive
- all of the cars and tracks just nail it, it's really quite something when you manage to climb the field and win a race on the last corner :datass:
- I do enjoy the menus as it gives me some focus on progression, but I also think there's a con in there...

Cons:
- music is typically weird, GT has always had a pretty odd choice but whatever
- rolling starts seem to be the only way the races start, which is a shame
- also irritates me that in a championship race I can win the first race but then I'm right at the back again for race #2, just not realistic
- roulette rewards are BULLSHIT :x
- the little avatars that waffle on at you are pretty annoying. Go away, Luca, just shut your mouth :x
- I do feel that the progression isn't as natural as in previous GTs. I wanted to buy my old Japanese street car and just climb the ladder, whereas the Menu system forces you down the path that GT wants you to go down, so you end up unlocking loads of cars that you may or may not have any interest in. I can see their thinking behind it, but I would have preferred total freedom to do it my way. I dunno, a bit undecided on that aspect.
- I also have no idea where my race replay screenshots get saved to (My Library? Where the strawberry float is that?)

I think I've only once not won the lowest cash amount, and that was when I won a crappy car part. Hopefully any kids playing will learn gambling doesn't pay

I think after the 4th one I totally checked out, I have zero expectation of ever getting anything decent from them. Bastards :x

I think the problem with the roulette is that it feels rigged due to the presentation. It looks like all 5 have an equal chance but obviously the probability goes down as the value goes up. If it was a rickety wheel the area would be like 90% the cheap prize and 0.1% the most expensive one.

I saw a video a few months go which confirms the roulette thing is rigged always for the lowest payouts. The guy in the video had like 10 tickets and each one was a small payout either 2k or 5k.

Which makes it obvious Polyphony want you to do microtransactions

Well, except it isn’t. They’re just the most likely. I’ve got the mid prizes tons of times, and the top prize a few. Hell, I spun one just last night and got 400k off it.

Yeah to be fair I got a car last night. Wasn't one I wanted or needed but gotta catch 'em all.

So it’s rigged about 80% of the time?

I know it’s not rigged, but my goodness it feels like it is, so often its about to stop on the beat on one of the top 2 prizes, only for it to get another beat in there and move onto the lowest one.

Yeah, I agree, but again I think it’s down to the presentation. They’re all shown equally and the animation they use makes you *think* “it could stop anywhere!”

But in reality at the point the animation is running its already been determined what you won. All the flashiness of everything spinning around is just a lot of pizazz. That’s not to say that you couldn’t have won the other prizes, just that when you redeem a ticket it’s just doing this behind the scenes and then playing an “exciting” animation.

Yeah, I know, you’ve posted it before. But I assume you only watched the first half because in the second half he goes through a streak where he doesn’t get the low prize at all for like 6 or 7 spins in a row.

Played a load of this now and I'm really enjoying it. On last night's play I won the World Tour Championship 700 using my ridiculously OP Camaro ZL1 1LE ‘18 (power limited to scrape in at 699PP), the car is absolute rocket :datass: . Still bummed out with the constant rolling starts - starting at the back of a field of 20 on the Nurburgring Nordschleife is a real challenge and it's normally a case of 1 mistake and I've lost any chance of a podium finish.

Up to about 2million credits now so going to invest in one of the top cars and put some miles on it, will have to research what might be the best one to go for - any recommendations?

TS050 is a great shout, can’t go wrong with any of the LMP1 cars on there really if you want something very quick yet real. If you want the quickest car to hoon around in, then the Red Bull X2014 (can’t remember the latest one it has) is the best option, that thing is obscenely quick.

I find lower powered mid engine stuff more fun than things like that red bull or formula cars. Give me a 300bhp mid engine rwd car any day, stick some gooseberry fool tyres on it and go to the nordschliefe!

Edit: like this, where I had the worst tyres on the rear and good ones on the front for drifting, and totally forgot before taking my first lap of that track. You can actually see me gooseberry fool myself the first time I try to take a corner

Lower powered stuff is definitely more fun, if you go past the limit it’s not an instant off most of the time either, so you can have fun without it being irritating if you keep going deep on your braking points. I’ll nearly always stick with my soft slick tyre clad, overly powered Civic Type R thats prone to understeer :shifty:
