The replays look nice but I don't think the in game graphics are any better than DriveClub. Unfortunately I want to play the game rather than just watch replays. Something to buy when cheap. Maybe.

I don't know why GT insists on bothering with the rally stages. Ever since GT2 it's felt like a novelty and massively inferior to Colin McRae. GT Sport is no different. It's not so much the handling - it's not as immediately enjoyable as Colin, but that swing-ability to the back end of the cars is there and it feels really great in the car - it's the fact the tracks are too narrow (in a kinda bizarre way, because they're actually wide), and there is no interaction with the environment whatsoever, making it feel almost like a toy car on a film set as it bumps off invisible walls.

There's some really bad draw-in too, with a fence repeatedly popping up on one of the corners every single lap (you'll definitely know it when you see it).

This aspect to me most feels like playing GT2 or 3 all over again. Except rather than GT3 in 2002 taking on Colin McRae 3, it's 2017 and it's GT Sport still facing off against Colin McRae 3 (which some may recall actually had the worst handling of the series).

In isolation it's fine, but the rally 'mode' on the basis of this demo is again very weak. You just can't do rallying where everything in the environment is static. Add in no real damage to the cars too, and while understandable, it's just...naff.

In the Notifications menu they've said Arcade mode, which incorporates Single Race, Time Trial, Drift, Custom Race and 2P Split Screen, will work offline and during maintenance which is brilliant news.

Also worth noting for those playing on a PS4 Pro but without a 4K TV, if you can go into Options and Display settings and then scroll to 2K Output Mode for PS4 Pro consoles, you can choose between "Prioritise Quality" which will give you the same graphical boost as playing on a 4K TV, or "Prioritise Frame Rate" which will still give you a visual boost over a standard PS4 but boosts the frame rate to 60fps.

I'll go along with this. I played some DriveClub last night and it's definitely true that DC more than holds its own visually against GT when in-car. Quite remarkable just how impressive DC still is. I think GT Sports wins, no contest, in the replay department. It's an odd state of affairs, but there it is. Either way, GT Sport has some very high-quality production values and I'm certainly looking forward to getting the full game next week.

DC is probably nicer looking but gt is doing it at twice the framerate.

Environments DC takes first place, but car wise I prefer GTS. It just looks crisper and more refined (particularly on the Pro) and as you say it's running at twice the frame rate. As a game, though, DC is just frustrating to play what with its wishy washy handling model and rubber band AI. GTS, on the hand, is a joy to play.

Well done them for putting out a demo as it's sold me on the game as I was internally raging at the thought of it having no campaign.

Not well done @ them for this though

Games will only be saved in Gran Turismo Sport while online

&

The game will not progress while you are offline

I hope that is just for this demo because that is some grade A bullshit.

The TV ad makes me want a PS4.

For those of you who actually have a console to play this on, this might interest you:

I may be a massive casual, but the event mode looks likes it will have some legs - the rank 6 stuff is hard as balls and includes a 30-lap endurance race with tyre/fuel strategy :dread: It certainly seems more interesting than a series of 2/3 lap races with dull saloons.

EDIT: I am also trash at the online racing - I think winning is out of the question for the foreseeable future, just getting over the line not last is a much more reasonable goal.

I know the common thinking these days amongst many publishers/developers appears to be to forgo a demo, but I think GT Sport proves how much of an impact a good one can still have. Overly short lived it may have been (this could and should have run for an entire week), this will still go down as one of the best demos I've ever played. So much of the build up to this game has appeared poor or severely lacking, Sony unable to capture the magic of the original 3 games, dethroned by Forza and Project Cars and DriveClub and Project Gotham Racing and...and with this one demo that has changed all of that. It's clearly not perfect in the same way the original GT was regarded, but this extensive demo has been a masterstroke. I really wasn't going to buy Sport had I not played it myself. I sat there a few months ago watching Forza 7 in 4K thinking 'no way the PS4 Pro could ever pull something like this off' and yet somehow they have, and completely out of nowhere. And I think as time goes by and it's routinely patched and added to it's only going to get better. There will be more tracks, more cars, more competitions, weather, minor graphical improvements...I'm really quite excited to play this properly, and I haven't done that with a Gran Turismo since 3.

It was the demo that convinced me to pre-order. I agree, it was a genius move on their part. The demo answered every lingering doubt I might still have had about the game. As soon as I saw the 'Arcade Mode' tab (play against the AI in customisable races) I was sold, tbh. The replays were just the icing on the cake. The game itself - based on my experiences with the demo - should be more or less everything I'd hope for from a decent racing sim. As tough or as easy as you want it to be (and it is actually possible to coast around entire laps without hitting the brakes once if you play on the absolutely easiest settings).

All the added detail - the extensive car histories, the car porn sections (just look at those glistening, tumescent models!), etc... it all adds up to a classy product which should hopefully satisfy racing sim fans. This year's been great for petrolheads on the PS4. Project Cars 2, Dirt 4 and GT Sport... too much, already! Seriously, though? Good job, Polyphony. The PS4 finally gets the GT game it has waited so long for.

There's nothing actually stopping them from bringing back Cup competitions either if they wanted to.

I'm very impressed with how logically the menus have been laid out too, because there's still a lot of comprehensive stuff in there. It's not like the wealth of car tweakery has been dumped.

I was just thinking how amazing it would be to play the game with this:

But how could you ever justify the £1000 outlay for that chair and the Thrustmaster T-GT. :dread:
