We should be seeing some official footage very soon, since it should have unlocked for New Zealanders by now.

I think I'm gonna get the PS5 upgrade as it's under nine wraps. I like getting into cars and driving them up hills whilst listening to the radio; and I haven't done that for a few years now.

If you do, enjoy the drive. I know I will. Straight to Raton Canyon to play in some waterfalls.

Ah! I'd wondered how the guy had managed to start the game early!

I've scrubbed through that post.

SWERVE: It still looks better than the actual PS5 version.

I did go for it! Just under nine quid; downloading now. I wanna get uptown, downtown and speed all around 8-) .

I recall that the opening of GTA V was - IMHO - a pile of pony. Some bank raid-thing that I found to be a slog; I was relieved to get that over with so that I could then just wander around and admire the scenery. I remember that I found a motorbike and jumped from a hill into the back of a carriage of a moving train; that was pretty fun :-) .

Awesome. And yeah, I remember that first mission. Important to the story, of course, but I just wanted to explore. I'll get my Online stuff transferred first and spend a bit of time there, but then I'll be heading to the story mode for my third time going through it.

I played an hour and I'm not entirely sure if I've missed that this is a really good game or the update is impressive. Either way, I've migrated both saves over but it's the Campaign that I really like. looks gorgeous and it has QUICK RESUME which I've pinned now so won't have to load it anytime soon.

I think you can skip the snow bank stuff at start with this update...

Very tempted to get this. I loved GTA V so much, but only ever played it on 360 at release. I bought it on Steam when I got a new PC in 2020, but after starting it up, I realised I didn't really want to play the story again, but more just mess around in the endgame phase.

Just finished off Skyward Sword which has been a bit of a slog, and replaying this feels like it would be nice to jump to.

It might only be a small performance and graphics boost, but it sure has given it a new feel to it - especially at 60FPS. Can safely say I'll no longer be needing the last gen version taking up space.

How are the loading times on character switching? I imagine that's where it could feel freshest (and for loading into the online)

Never played GTAV but always been tempted to and this sounds like the best time to jump in (even if I sort of like the older, more muted tones and the Xbox360 starker shadowing in that comparison video)

Also this article is great: https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2022-03-15-grand-theft-auto-5-is-so-much-more-than-its-misanthropy

That feature was just never true for this version to begin with. It's entirely dependant on the speed of the storage. Just having the game on an SSD improves the character switch load times drastically, so the One version of the game has had such a feature since the Series consoles came out. However, there's apparently been some backend changes to allow for the game to hit a stable framerate even in full Online lobbies, so that's one advantage it has over the One version.

About 5 seconds, only did it once tho, heard there can be a glitch that leads to 40-60 seconds for some people.

I've played the opening half-hour on PS5. I was wrong when I spoke earlier about the start; it's not a bad way of getting into the game. A lot of "controls" messages are thrown at you and it's a bit too much to take in, but it's okay.

I'm impressed by the graphics. For a nine-year old game, the environments still look better than many games released now; particularly in terms of the scale, varied views and visibility. The figures are a maybe a wee bit stilted but still decent.

I'm finding the steering a tad loose but I think I'll soon get used to it. Right now I've got to the house and saved the game; I'm looking forward to driving round and exploring at my own pace.

The PS5 version uses the DualSense controller pretty well; it features rumble and uses the speaker (for phone usage and conversation) which I always enjoy as so few games do.

So, yeah, it has been good so far :-).

Is GTA Online showing up for PS5 in the store? Select that and then choose what version/campaign.
