The next award is for

Best Gaming Podcast

A curious category - gaming podcasts are not hugely popular, and those of you that do listen to them...well, don't listen to the same ones  There was one clear winner, receiving double the votes of any other candidate, and the winner is...

Giant Bombcast

Image

Special mentions are also reserved for Listen Up, Rebel FM and One Life Left, each receiving 4 votes.

Who would you have?

I can dig this result. Uncharted 2 is a big technical achievement. And, as has been hinted at in many reviews, put Naughty Dog right up there with the best of 'em.

Looking back at the thread I said Capcom for Street Fighter, Resi, Street Fighter 2 HD remix and Marvel vs Capcom, ya know, more than one game.

I would also have settled for Valve with L4D2 and never ending TF 2 support.

But isn't it better to make one incredibly polished game and pack it with loads of features, then support it extensively, than to just make a load of games?

Like Valve with Team Fortress 2?

And of course making 'a load of games' doesn't entitle them to it, but games of the high quality of Street Fighter IV or Resi (in co-op, it was brilliant) all add up therefore showing the diversity and prowess of a development studio, which in my mind this award should be celebrating, much more than putting out one game no matter how refined and polished it might be.

No matter how good Halo: Reach is next year I probably wouldn't call Bungie the best developer of 2010 if another company releases three or four very good games and shows off their diversity.

I do agree. But this time it's understandable surely? Naughty Dog have created a fantastic technical showcase, crafted a high-rollicking story around it with great characters and catapulted themselves to the top table of video game development. Quite a year for 'em. One game or no.

The penultimate accolade in our Game of the Year awards is for

Most Anticipated Game of 2010

Eagle eyed amongst you will note that I have omitted an award category, that of "Biggest Disappointment of 2009". I believe that such negativity isn't healthy, so I have decided to not include. Don't ask me what won it, because I didn't bother counting the votes.
Of course, if you want to know - really, really want to - I guess I could do it :fp:

And the winner, of Most Anticipated Game of 2010 is...

Oh my goodness.

Ladies and gentleman, it appears we have a tie for first place.

Perhaps, I haven't played the whole thing just bits round my old housemates that I have enjoyed but there were games I liked more in 2009. He enjoyed the game as well but said it both forwards the industry technically but also hurts it by moving games closer to Hollywood, blurring the lines in such a way that it starts to lose its identity as a game.

I'd actually argue that it does more to keep its identity as a game than most games of its type. Instead of QTE scenes, we have proper "interactive scenes" (for lack of a better term) where the gameplay never stops, unstead opting for gooseberry fool to kick off around us as we carry on playing.
I'd say it takes what Half-Life did and takes it even further.

What a joke.

Hans Zimmer's soundtrack for MW2 is great!

It's OK but fails to pull at the right time. They made it too fancy. The score written by Stephen Barton and Harry Gregson-Williams in MW is much better orchestrated created more impact helping to improve immersion, however...

Mafro wrote:I know you insist that MW1 is the better game and all that, but the audio was brilliant. And have you actually listened to the ODST soundtrack?

...it's got nothing to do with the fact I think MW is a better game even though it's score does lend it more credence.

This is an award for best audio and, by a country mile, SOCOM should have been the winner. It's occlusive soundstage is second to none and proximity chat is processed...you can hear someone in a room or on a balcony above you but because they way the audio is processed it feels like it's been bouncing off walls before it got to you.

The audio in SOCOM is not only well executed but is technically brilliant. The only game I have played that comes anywhere near close is MAG...which is hardly surprising as it's using pretty much the same technology.

That's why this award has been a joke. Musical scores are all well and good but when audio enhances gameplay...strawberry float that, becomes essential to survival...then you know the audio processing os worthy of an award. MW2 is weak in comaprison.
