Fire Emblem demands a kind of time investment because there is so much story and dialogue.
I got through Awakening over several years. Without skipping stuff I'd bear in mind Three Houses seems to be 2 or 3x that. If you have issues consciously skipping stuff or worry about making decisions then it's maybe a slow return on that 40 snoops. I bought it with a game voucher too.
Fire Emblem Engage does seem like more of what I remember from Awakening.
