PostGRcade EU Elections Exit Poll
by That » Thu May 23, 2019 12:05 pm

The results of this poll will be published on Sunday, when the final EU elections finish.

I took the parties from a big list on Wikipedia, and tried to merge regional parties together where they had similar policies and goals. I ordered them on a broadly left-to-right axis, apart from "Other (e.g. local parties, independent candidates)", which I listed last.

(No decisions were made to be biased!!!, honestly, I just thought it was the best way to put the poll together, please no bully.)

Small print on exit poll laws: I will endeavour to hide the results until Sunday. This is out of genuine respect for the spirit of the exit poll laws, in recognition of the effect unregulated exit polls could have on turn-out and so forth. I'm aware that if you switch to an accessible theme or view the site in a non-standard way, you might still be able to view the results as they come in -- at the end of the day I did my best and this is obviously just for fun and not a "real" exit poll, the idea is just for it to be as hidden as possible for now, particularly for those outside of our community. Just keep the data to yourself and don't ruin the surprise if you manage to view it accidentally in this way. Cheers!

(P.S. You are of course free to comment in this thread who you voted for. And in any other respect discuss the election today. That's just chat, not a poll.)

Nice.

I'm honestly really torn on who to vote for. My head says "Lib Dems" as a Labour -> Lib Dem swing could give us an extra Lib Dem MEP in Wales.

But my heart says Greens. I want to see them do well, I want their vote share to go up so they start getting taken more seriously, they're great on the EU and climate change is important, and after all the Extinction protestors and Greta Thunberg stuff it seems like now's their moment.

Going to wander up to the polling station soon.

Green for me.

I’ve also persuaded 3 other people to vote Green today, including one who voted for Brexit in 2016.

These might be useful for the OP for people who are on the fence...

http://www.mepranking.eu/ - This will show you how much work each currently sitting MEP puts in and how they compare to the EU parliament as a whole. Key stats to look at are:
  • Attendance - obviously... this shows if they turn up for work much
  • Votes - how often they vote on matters, in theory representing you and your opinion
  • Amendments - this one is tricky, it's apparently a lot of work to successfully amend things, so if your MEP is ranked high here then they work their socks off

https://yourvotematters.eu/en/ - This website will give you a buzzfeed style game of a dozen ish questions and then it will show how your opinion aligns with every single party and candidate wanting your vote today. It's a good way to strip away the personality politics, preconceptions and lies.

Both of the above are completely independent as far as I know.

Heart said Green but went Lib Dem as the momentum seems to be behind them as leading Remain voice.

I read that web link as "me pranking" rather than "mep ranking" .

Looks like my closest matches via that link above are Greens, Labour and Plaid Cymru.

The last two don't have any candidates here, so Greens it is.

I saw someone had mentioned D'Hondt and, I'll be honest, that response was 90% instinct. Then I read the article and realised I knew the system already.

So it's a 50% increase in understanding share.

Disregarding the one Labour guy because I don't trust them as far as I can throw them on Europe, and the PC one because I'm not Welsh.

That leaves me with a pretty solid string of Green, which is what I went with this morning.

Well remembered. Yes it was that guy.

He’s gone from voting Tory in 2015, voting Brexit in 2016 because he “just fancied a change”, to a ardent Leaver that couldn’t admit he was wrong, to a Labour supporting Remainer in 2017 and now he is a Green voter. Quite a turnaround.
