All of the above. Haven't I got it down as a shooter?

I would, but Retro Gamer has been amazing this year.

Well then use your mod powers to edit NGamer into other peoples votes. :shifty:

NGamer would sell more if they upped the thickness or put the price down. £5 for a magazine without a demo disc of some sort is ridiculous.

That's what I love about Mass Effect 2 (among so many other things  ), it can't really be classified in any single genre.

Anyway, I'd say my Top 5 of the year would probably be:
1 - Mass Effect 2
2 - Medal of Honor (I hate spelling it that way)
3 - Darksiders
4 - Red Dead Redemption
5 - Alan Wake

Oh and this is a problem I had with last year's award - if everyone is going to put GRcade, then the 'Best Website' award is pretty much pointless. We don't deserve to win it, in a cruel twist of paradoxical irony.

Cheaper than £5 if you subscribe. Or buy it from Morrisons with a staff discount card :shifty:

Still it's worth the money for being awesome.

I don't get this at all.

Not that next year doesn't look good(ish), but this year has been great.

And to be honest, next year isn't absolutely amazing looking.

Last Guardian
Portal 2
Child of Eden
Crysis 2
Batman Arkham City
Deus Ex: Human Revolution

...beyond that there are various generic/sequel shooters, some others that might break into the top tier. But it should be taken for granted that at least one of even those ones I listed will disappoint. It certainly doesn't look better than the year we've just had.

Batman Arkham City
Rage
Max Payne 3
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
The Witcher 2
Dragon Age 2

I don't really see anything on that list (other than Guild Wars 2, The Witcher 2 and Dragon Age 2) that doesn't cater to my interest, I'll probably end up with most of those games.

I just don't really understand the harsh criticism this year in particular is getting. Its not just from one particular person and I'm pretty much a fan of every genre with the possible exception of RPGs.

I think this year has been pretty damn amazing all round, there have been stand out titles in just about every genre and a handful of games that are legitimate contenders for being among the best games ever made...whats not to like?

Posted my votes for those interested.

Big post warning.

Overall Game of the Year: Minecraft - It's an easy choice. No game I've played in the past year, or several years in fact, has given me as much enjoyment. The £8 I paid for it is simply the best value for money I've received for something in a long, long time. Hours at a time are lost to this game and every other week it's updated and refined with new stuff. It's quite possibly going into my top 5 games of all time, it's that good.

Best Action/Adventure Game: Minecraft - See above...

Best Fighter: Super Street Fighter IV - Awesome upgrade to the already fantastic original.

Best Platformer: Not played any but I'm confident enough to say Mario Galaxy 2

Best Puzzle Game: Layton - Unwound Future - More puzzles, more plot. It's just awesome.

Best Racing Game: NFS: Hot Pursuit - The only time I've ever bought a racing game day 1. Excellent title.

Best RPG: Been a quiet year for me RPG wise but it's between Demon Souls and Pokémon Soul Silver.... Demon Souls

Best Rythym/Music Game: Rock Band 3 - From what I've seen and read it's the pinnacle of the genre. Just need to get round to buying it now.

Best Shooter: It's definitely either Reach or Bad Company 2. Both excellent games, but for sheer hours spent on it, I'm going to go for Bad Company 2.

Best Sports Game: Don't play them, but FIFA 11 was good fun from the one match I played.

Best Strategy Game: Starcraft II or Civ V. Very tough to choose from. Still playing both at a snails pace but I think Starcraft II has to take it. Simply for the sheer polish Blizzard have bestowed upon it.

The Oddball Award: Minecraft - It's unlike anything I've ever played. It's Farmville, mixed with Left 4 Dead and a big box of Lego.

Import Game of the Year: Pokémon Black/White - A nice step up from the last generation. Nice upgrades to keep it looking reasonably fresh. Only let down is the new 'mon.

Best New Downloadable Game: Minecraft
- It's downloadable. Ergo it wins.

Best Downloadable Content: Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare - Awesome update that takes a great game in a new direction.

The Innovation Award: Minecraft - See oddball. There's nothing like it.

Best Visuals: Heavy Rain - Thought it was a great looking game.

Best Audio: Minecraft - Very subtle. Sound effects that can make you gooseberry fool yourself, combined with serene incidental music that kicks in every so often. Faultless for me.

Best Multiplayer: Bad Company 2, Minecraft or NFS:Hot Pursuit I think. They're the games I've spent the most time with (Or in NFS case can see myself spending time with) and loved every second of it. I think Minecraft might take it as well. With the addition of monsters and proper health in the multiplayer mode it's truly become fleshed out. Plus what else lets you build an awesome castle with mates, then defend it from a zombie, spider and creeper assault?

Developer of the Year:
Mojang Specifications
- They make Minecraft.

Publisher of the Year: Not really got one this year.

Hardware Platform of the Year:
PC - Starcraft II, Civ V, Steam and Minecraft have rekindled my love affair with the PC. Truly the greatest and most versatile of platforms.

Games Magazine of the Year: EDGE - I don't read anything else so this wins it by default.

Games Website of the Year: Eurogamer.net - Well written, good articles and with a British/Euro focus. All I need.

Games Podcast of the Year: Headset Abuse - (Godslayer would kill me if I didn't plug this)

Top Gaming News Story of 2010: Infinity Ward imploding - Activision = fucktards

Biggest Disappointment of 2010: Still no HL2: Episode 3 - Cheeky Devlin am cry

Most Anticipated Game of 2011: Arkham City - Follow up to one of my favourite games from last year? Yes please.

If I could have put Minecraft for everything I would have. Easily. :D

Can anyone spot the one game I REALLY enjoyed this year?

I agree with this. Most of this. I don't necessarily see the need for the last catagory, but all bar that yes.

Hmph, he can count them, then ;)

I was originally going to do some kind of points system, where voters could have 3 games per award in a gold, silver and bronze sort of thing.

Then I realised how long it would take to count them all.

Even if you don't pick Minecraft for GOTY then you at least have to put it as best downloadable. Nothing else this year comes close to it.

Unless you like real games.

Downloadable games have been amazing the year.

Winterbottom, Limbo, Lara Croft, Scott Pilgrim, Super Meat Boy, PacMan CE DX.

Any of those could have won for me.

Best New Downloadable Game:

I don't think Perfect Dark really fits that description.
