Do multiple rounds of voting, just like game of the decade.

Round after round after round!

Quality not quantity 8-)

I think 15 is looking like the magic number. Not the roundest, but never mind.

Surely a point system would mitigate the effect of certain games getting the same number of votes as it would create the possibility that two games can get the same number of votes but tally a different number of points.

I think 20 games would be a better choice.

If I do 20 games then there's no points system. A vote is a vote.
Besides, I couldn't sit and decide what was better between Rock Band and Mass Effect 2, for example, on my own list.

Assuming you mean Rock Band 3 (because why wouldn't you), then that's easy. Rock Band 3.

I say 15 and a points system is the best compromise

Just put my finger on something that bothers me about votes for the best (or your favourite) game.

There's not specific consideration for games you are so happy that exist which might not necessarily be your favourite game. If that doesn't make sense to you, consider The Beatles: Rock Band, I could never put it on a list of say the top 15 games of the generation, because when you consider it alongside Rock Band 3 its basically the same but with much less content, however I'm so glad that game exists, its such a wonderful game on its own and so unlikely to exist too. It'd be nice if games like that could get some recognition.

We could certainly try. I'd like it if people could put pen to paper and write something neat about their favourite game. I'd love to include some creative writing like that.
20 games, no points, November 2005 onwards, 3DS & Vita included. Will make the thread soon.

I really think that a points system should be used so I think that 15 games with points is preferable to 20 games without points.

EDIT: The 3DS and Vita really shouldn't be included as they haven't been succeeded by anything, unlike the PS3, 360, Wii, DS and PSP.

I think handhelds should be disregarded, as they seem to have their own generations, out of line with the home consoles.

So we going to have a separate one for handhelds? :simper:

I thought it'd be easy, but it's pretty tough choosing just fifteen/twenty games from an eight-year period. Titles like The Last of Us and Mario Galaxy 2 *should* feature, but I've barely played them. There's going to be so many different games that Buff will need one hell of a spreadsheet. It's gonna be ace, though.

Does that mean the order doesn't matter? Seems like that's going to cause you problems.

Is this 'of the Decade' thing just for a game or are there going to be other awards?

How about
1 overall game of the generation (5 points)
4 runners up (3 points each)
10 'honourable mentions' (1 point each)
for a total of 15 games.
