Is that one of those things that are basically cheap Elgatos?

EDIT: yeah I remember seeing an article about it on the Verge not long ago https://www.theverge.com/21346571/cheap ... test-price

Yeah Devlin mentioned them in here a few weeks back so I thought I'd grab one and give it a go. Not used it in anger yet but gave it a quick test and was quite impressed!

So I’ll hopefully be getting my broadband upgraded soon (still on copper just now :slol: ) What are the recommended upload speeds for various resolutions on Twitch? I’ve been quoted between 3.1-5.1Mb/s upload on the fibre package I’m upgrading to. Whenever I streamed before I just stuck the PS4 setting in 540p since my upload averaged out around 0.8 and 0.9Mb/s.

I don't really stream but I looked into it a while back just to see if I could stream Dark Souls or whatever to people on here (it wasn't very good on my current laptop so I kind of stopped!).

Anyway, I remember finding this webpage pretty useful as a cheat sheet:

https://stream.twitch.tv/encoding/

I recall a random Reddit post saying you ideally want have an upload speed a bit above your target bitrate, to account for the audio and for variability in your connection.

Assuming you're more towards the 5 Mbps end it looks like you'll be able to smash 720p30 with a lot of headroom, or squeeze in 1080p30 or 720p60.

(EDIT: clarity)

I don't think I've ever really played with the settings when steaming from OBS on PC and have just let it do its thing.

Not streamed much from the PS4 but I think I just left that at 540p as well

I read a guide on using OBS that recommended setting your bit rate around 80% of your maximum and that has usually worked for me.

On PS4 I set it at 540p as I know one of my regulars has crummy internet that can't really handle anything better.

That's really handy thanks :) 720p30 was basically what I was hoping for so anything higher is a bonus.

Would be nice if the new consoles do something with their streaming interface because currently they're pish. Can't believe the PS4 one basically hasn't been updated at all since launch and you can really tell :dread: If my upload is consistently decent enough to stream at an acceptable quality then I'll probably just end up buying an Elgato providing it works fine with my MacBook Pro tbh.

Does Twitch still half that annoying thing where you're only able to change the video quality on certain streams?

The streamer has to enable transcoding for that (at the cost of introducing a delay), and the option to do so is only available to affiliates because it’s extremely resource intensive on their servers. I think most don’t bother because they want their streams to be more interactive with the audience and therefore as low latency as possible.

The issue for most with it I would guess is you aren't guaranteed to get the option for viewers to change the setting. I used to stream at 6000kb/s but read that unless you're partner there's no point. The worst thing you can do is set it to that and cut out people able to watch at all. For example Still Alive on Twitch (Cumberdanes brother) leaves streams as his internet isn't good and even at 3300 he sometimes struggles.

Personally I'd got for around 3500 at 720 as you'll open the door to more viewers, and also viewers having the option to change the resolution is only a benefit to you and them. May delay isn't that bad at all and I have it on (though the option isn't always there) and people said there was a few seconds delay during a Jackbox game the other day. People using the app instead of watching from a PC are adding delay themselves so it's on them (Grum.) Seriously, Grum and jawa watching on their tablets and has like 40 seconds delay, everyone else who watches via PC has something like 2 seconds.

I use a mic that I got from work, so I have no idea if it's quality or not.

Going to start a Madhouse run of Resident Evil 7 at about 5pm on Twitch if anyone's interested. :D

Hey guys, finally starting streaming and deciding to focus mainly on Switch streaming. Did my first Pokemon Sword last night and it went mint, even got raided and someone in the chat gave me loads of eggs with the other starters which was great.

Any follows would be greatly appreciated. Maybe we can do some GRCade multiplayer streams at some point - https://www.twitch.tv/chazmers

I've chucked you a follow mate! Love the concept of chat controlling the team, I'll definitely tune in to some of your Pokemon stuff.

I use a Yeti, but even with that I have various settings on OBS. There's various tutorials on YouTube to get shitty mics sounding good.

Is that just the normal Yeti? The price difference on Amazon between the Nano and that is only £20 but it seems like quite a big jump in terms of hardware and features.

^ Yeah, can't go wrong with the Yetay.

I might try this streaming business out over the next few days. Sister's got my Yeti though so it'll have to be with my effin cheap earphones.

Cheers man, yeah i fancied doing something different, although last night they almost wiped me trying to catch an overlevelled Pikachu and then spent the rest of the time hatching eggs that the stream was gifting me.

Tonight is all about getting a set team sorted and playing through.

I've got a Blue Yeti, i like it for the time being, although I've had to add some gain filters on because no matter how I spoke it was too quiet originally over the game sounds
