Had a really weird incident with someone in my Discord tonight there where a wee guy who's been coming into my streams and making me feel a bit uncomfortable tried to correct my use of the word jealous. A few of us pushed back a bit, explaining that the use of language changes, jealous and envious are largely synonymous, etc. The conversation moved on a bit and then he jumped back in with another comment. One of Jimjam's friends made a really innocuous joke in response and he blew up, unfollowed me on Twitch and deleted Discord(according to the message).
I feel like absolute gooseberry fool about it. Never had to deal with anything like this before, and while I don't think anyone has been offensive or said anything wrong, I can't help but feel like there was a pile-on and that's caused him upset. That's not what I want from Twitch, or from my community at all, and I hate the idea that this might've caused someone discomfort. I've messaged the dude to apologise and let him know that nobody was trying to take the piss or anything. I don't even mind if he doesn't come back or whatever, but I need him to know that, at least from my end, there was no malice intended in any of the comments that were made. I guess I'm worried that, because previous interactions with him have made me uncomfortable, I've been unconsciously harsh or shitty without intending to be.
Honestly man, mortified.
I found the chat on Discord and honestly it comes completely out of the blue. There was no pile-on that I could see. They came out with something that most of the people in the chat disagreed with, the responses were all perfectly civil then they pulled the "I'm leaving forever" card when someone made a joke about something unrelated, that wasn't even any kind of insult, or even directed at them.
It's a bit of a fact of streaming that as you grow and get more viewers, you're not always going to like all of them. Some people might not do anything, or say anything "bad", but they just seem to rub you up the wrong way.
You go out of your way to be welcoming and friendly on stream so don't worry about it.
If they've decided that your community isn't for them well then that's their loss. Plus if they've been making you uncomfortable on stream maybe it's for the best.
