I'm looking forward to giving the cheapo Cintiq (The Wacom One) a go, as Wacom were doing a refurb deal and I can claim the VAT off that to get it down to £146.60 with free delivery :toot:

https://estore.wacom.com/en-GB/wacom-on ... 33w0b.html

Someone stole my Intuos3 which I replaced, to be honest I rarely used it anyway, but it is an extremely useful, accurate and reliable too. I replaced it about 2 years ago for £65 on eBay so while I was tempted by an Intuos Pro Medium Paper (that can now also trace your hand drawings, while acting as a multitouch pad on top of that) to replace it, it would have been a smaller drawing area and I think having a 2nd monitor to essentially draw on below my main monitor (which is 1440p Dell with a really good colour gamut) will be more useful. It's still quite expensive and I've got to be careful with money the minute.

I'm trained to draw and paint without looking at the pen/pencil so graphics tablet work has never particularly bothered me;- such a low entry price for essentially a small HD Cintiq, that isn't a bloody iPad or other smart device with their randomly disappearing/crashing apps, neutered features and endless redundancy, and just integrates with my PC set up is quite exciting!

That's about half what I played for my first Wacom tablet in 2006, anyway I hope I get some practical use out of it for inking line art especially or even some painting so I can print those off as shirts for something later in October.

If it's not to my taste or I simply don't use it I'll be selling it in 30 days anyway, I have a little more room in my current studio to have this set up with photoshop or whatever away from the main screen where it's so easy to get distracted by other gooseberry fool like emails.

These are actually photographs, but heavily processed in Topaz Studio to give a more painterly feel. I feel a bit weird about posting these here as these pictures are basically the result of moving a fuck-ton of sliders around to achieve the desired effect. Still, the underlying photographs were taken by me and I was very careful and intentional in how exactly I moved those sliders.

At least half the credit for these goes to the cheat code that is Topaz Studio's painterly filters.

Congrats on the exhibit!

Thanks! Despite the "cheat code" I'm still very happy with these pictures and proud of the result (though I'm sure I'd be even more so had I actually painted them). My favorite is probably the black and white cat (despite the weird looking visual artefacts around the branches).
I actually had them printed and framed. I thought about getting them printed on canvas, but decided in the end that would have been a little too... dishonest.

Thanks! And you still have to have an eye for what you're making even if it's moving sliders around.

Tbh anyone can tell it's a printed canvas if they try so if you want that aesthetic nobody's going to do you in for it.

I'd go full conceptual just to strawberry float with people, what's the value of a painting anyway.

I say this actually painting as well. The value is in the question itself.

Heyo!

Painted with "oil paint".
Or, more specifically, painted in a VR app called Vermillion that simulates (to an extent) painting with oil paint.

Done another drawing, again is done on a tablet rather than "real" as such. Was done from a photo, I am gooseberry fool at proportions of stuff that I cant do with a ruler (like buildings) so used the photo as a base later to get basic outline of the head and body and went from there. Tis a drawing of Mrs Errkal.

I figure over time I may do more and will graudally get the hang of proportions and whatnot by doing it this way but we will see :D

Been drawing a lot the last few months and recently decided to purchase a pen tablet. Haven't done much with it besides practice, but I just finished this piece:
Image
It's very messy (and only some parts intentionally so), but I'm mostly happy with it.

I used this photograph as reference.

Two very quick studies I did tonight from photo reference (not sure where from):

Not that I can know for sure, but it looks like you managed to capture her likeness. I especially like the glasses and nose. The glasses are detailed and sharp, and both it and the nose look quite solid and three dimensional.
One tip from one beginner to another regarding the hair that you might be grateful to hear as it can save you a lot of tedious work: you don't need to waste your time drawing every single strand of hair. Even a lot of very detailed and realistic portrait drawings split the hair into separate areas based on light and shading, and just use details to accentuate the more important parts.
But that's about as far as my knowledge extends. I've yet to work out all the details of how to actually make use of this tip. I know from years of not practicing what I'm "learning" that knowing the theory of how something should be done is not enough. Too many Youtube tutorials, not enough drawing.

A quick (uh, no, took me over half an hour) sketch from the imagination:

It looks like she's working on some chewing gum or something, which isn't remotely what I was going for. Oh well.

Only about 14 years.

I'm sure I'll hate it tomorrow, but I'm at least somewhat pleased with it at the moment.

Did this from reference. Not sure who it is or where I got the reference image from. Possibly some famous actress from the 50s or 60s.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that's a prerequisite.

Big nose, tiny ear, eyes on a different plane than the rest of the face:

I should start looking over these more carefully before I go into full on rendering and shading mode so I can at least try to fix some of the more obvious mistakes. Still, I'm pretty sure I'm at least learning something with each new piece so it's all good.
