This time went for the inside of a pub I like, a little more complicated but good fun, I quite like things made of lines

I did this one a couple of times the first with a ruler to do the basic layout but it all felt too rigid and precise, I quite like the nothing straight the perspective is all sort of "off" ness.

Yeah Sketchbook is pretty great really, especially the rulers, shapes and other aids for drawing constructed objects. I sketched a survey of an old pub garden here and sent that off the to national theatre which was accepted for interview at their drawing office, amongst some other things

Not sure if you were using the app or a Windows 10 app, because there is also a desktop version that is slightly more complex but retains most of its simplicity. I subscribed to it for a while for something like £1.50 a month.

It reminds me of artrage but more precise (former is more of a virtual painting application, desktop only). I like the workflows that focus on the result rather than choosing a million parameters.

Sketching is very different to drawing, as an excercise, there's a reason there are two words. Some interfaces focus around that whereas something like Photoshop or Illustrator is very much throwing the kitchen sink at a basic task, especially if you want a consistent aesthetic to something. Much more clicking and bullshit than necessary.

I'm using the Android App on well Android, I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ a little while back and it comes with an S-Pen which feels like a pencil to use. The app is great as is simple adn does layers etc. Only annoyance is that it has no backup and that of files so I need to sort my own thing to sync the raw files off.

The lights aren't hung at consistent intervals on the ceiling, would not drink at pub again

The light glow effect comes on a bit strong given the flat colouring used elsewhere but otherwise I like it!

Yeah the glow is a bit funky, I think on reflection I wouldn't bother with it again.

Nice work, Errkal! I like the colouring and, as you say, the slightly varied perspective in some objects does add a degree of style to the image. Great stuff!

Well well well.. you can draw

The perspective there is pretty good and you've also adopted a painterly aesthetic that makes any of the "not perfectly straight lines" (as you've identified you prefer not to do that and then turned it into a strength) consistent with the mark making. It reminds me of scenes like Edward Hopper

The balance of tones and limited colour palette are also very illustrative, it's often better to use less colours than more and there's nothing clashy or lurid or anything like that. Congratulations, you have a natural sense of colour balance and limited tone palette!

I quite like the exaggerated lights as I'm a bit of a surrealist/fauvist in my paintings, so if you think of things like the famous giant glowing swirly moons like Van Gogh it's evocative of that and kind of reminds me of my scotopic sensitivity (blurry/streaky light vision) which is very much why I literally see things like that.. Unless we have something in common I didn't know about? Lol

Yeah I don't like lots of colours and like the blocks of colour over going off on shading and stuff.

I don't know if I see the light like you describe,but I am always drawn to lights and how stuff is lit, I think it's why I've become so obsessed with the Phillip Hue stuff I've started buying as I can play with light in the room and what colours are where and stuff.

I'm up to 22 bulbs and lamps now..... Living room as 13 so I can do all kinds of things. Was epic around Christmas as had a setup that would gradually shift between pastely colours behind the TV, tree, and in drink cabinet and that.

I have the ceiling light and a lamp by the sofa on "normal" light colour then use the others to add bits of colour in corners and behind TV and that.

I have a couple in my office as I've been at home tor a year now I find it kind of boring and having a couple lights behind my screen slowly shifting between rainbow colours really helps my mood.

As it's been nice and snowy here I decided to do a little winter seen. Did it using Procreate on iPad which is a really cool app.

I really like how you made the nearest tree slightly out of focus, Sandy - it's a great mechanism for drawing the eye into the scene. Top stuff!

Cheers. Ah yes, I didn't think of that.

@jawa - drawing on a tablet is great, especially with the ipad and the pencil. Really good control and brush strokes etc and obviously an amazing screen. I'll add an example of drawing on it. (sorry another insta vid but it's the easiest way to share - click on the right arrow)

Floating island, done in Infinite Painter on my Samsung tablet:

First finished drawing in... 10+ years? Probably not quite, but it feels that way.
I want to make a series of these kinds of pictures, just islands floating in the sky with structures on them or some other points of interest. I also want to be less afraid of/lazy about using reference.

Nice work. Taking something you like and creating a series is a great way to explore and extend a creative stint. I've worked on triptychs and imaginary books before (aren't they all imagined... That's the strawberry floating point lol). I'd plan out a sensible number so you don't feel bad if you don't go and knock out 10. Two contrasting pieces is fine.

Don't be afraid of sketching small thumbs and then picking your favourites, iterate on a bunch of those really fast (like 30 seconds) the start drawing as opposed to sketching the good ones. You might be surprised how quickly you can generate ideas. They don't all have to become finished works, they seldom do, prolific artists don't work that way at all.
