Can't see Slay the Spire, which considering its popularity seems a glaring omission if it isn't cleerly hidden somewhere. .

Karl_ wrote:I'm not sure if it's indie enough for this thread(!?), but I will probably play Ender Lilies at some point. It reminds me a bit of Blasphemous and I liked that. It's even more explicitly Souls inspired in terms of presentation. Hard to get a feel for the combat without actually playing it but seems competent at first glance.

I gave this a go for an hour.

It seems OK so far! It starts off a bit slow - I'm personally of the opinion that soulslikes ought to ramp it up quickly (we've all played Souls before, that's...why we're here!) but I'm trying not to get impatient. I'll definitely give it another hour or so.

Very early to post impressions but the boss fights I've finished were good. I'm interested by the Metroid-style doors you can't open yet, there seem to be plenty scattered around - I think that's a nice component of 2D soulslikes. The enemy variety isn't blowing me away so far, but there have been some interesting challenges to overcome with enemy placement in the level. I think it has an interesting attack system - three separate weapons equipped at a time, each mapped to a different face button.

The art and presentation are inoffensive, and the music is decent, but the writing suffers a little from being translated and comes across a bit goofy in places, I think.

Love this idea for a thread! I really only started getting into Indies since owning a Switch. It's been such an awesome console for it and now is say 85% of my library are Indies now.

I think now new AAA games are creeping up in price, I'm turning more and more towards this "smaller" titles, and generally get atleast the same level of enjoyment out of them as I would a AAA.

The only remotely AAA games I've played in the last ten years would be XCOM 2, Civ VI and Diablo 3, almost everything I can play is an indie release and I'm totally fine with that.

Indies really came into their own last gen thanks to the console manufacturers giving them the time to shine. I just love the unique experiences you get with them or the nostalgic trips they can take you on.

Switch is my go to machine for indies, they seem perfectly suited to handheld play!

Yeah I don't think I could stomach that for longer than a trailer. It's a fun concept, but I don't want to actually play it  It doesn't look particularly good outside of that gimmick either, or at least it looks generic in gameplay and visuals. I'm glad to know it exists though I guess?

What The Golf? was genuinely one of my games of last year. A hugely funny, hugely varied way of looking at how to use basic videogame golf mechanics to do a bunch of things that just weren't golf. Well worth a look, and even more so now because they've released two new mini-campaigns for it!

Anybody here tried Unavowed? I was thinking of picking it up whilst it is stil on introductory sale for Switch. I'm a big fan of Point and Click games, but have never played a Wadjit Eye one (no PC). Is it safe to say i should be picking it up?

Unfortunately I can't speak to Unavowed, but for indie point-and-clicks I can strongly recommend There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension and the Darkside Detective games (2 > 1 but you do kinda need to play 1 and 1's still good).

I keep forgetting about There Is No Game. Would that be better on Switch or Mobile?

Honestly I don't know. I had maybe one issue with the controls on Switch (on the telly)? And it looks pretty nice on a big screen, despite often having pixilated graphics.

The Darkside Detective games do have a rather nice thing on Switch where you can use both sticks to move the cursor faster. It's not quite mouse speed but it works well.
