It should be with them adding a proper story mode. Not played any of their other games(s?) Though.

I’m going to give it a go over the weekend but it looks like it’ll be a really fun time sink.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but the studio behind The Messenger are working on a new turn based RPG that is set in the same universe.

Engaging turn-based combat. Combat gameplay includes active player input during attack animations (timed hits), multi-character combo attacks, boosting, and strategic defense options to hinder enemies while they are channeling powerful attacks or spells. For a more immersive experience, there are no random encounters or transitions to separate battlefields, and no grinding. Both navigation and combat happen in the same environment.
Unshackled traversal. Swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges as you run through the world with a navigation system based on platformer expertise that breaks free from the classic bound-to-the-grid tile-based movement.

Prequel story set in The Messenger’s universe. Dozens of original characters and story arcs will take you on a captivating journey. Sometimes epic, sometimes silly, and other times emotional, Sea of Stars does its RPG duty of exploring classic themes of adventure and friendship, while also being chock-full of the unexpected twists and events you’ve come to expect from a Sabotage production.

Full-on dynamic lighting our custom-made render pipeline allows the creation of a breathtaking world coming to life by pushing the limits of 2D pixel-art games.

The Sabotage treatment on the turn-based RPG genre. Every system has been deeply analyzed to create an experience that pays respect to retro classics, while reworking some elements in order to offer a modernized experience free of irritants and overly lengthy sequences

Coming to PC and Consoles in 2022

I backed this after seeing the Skatebird people recommended it. it looks really cool. I would have gone for the physical edition but it was like 140 Canadian dollars.

Last night I played through a game called Burly Men at Sea

It was a nice little thing, only took under 3 hours to finish all the adventures but I liked it. Its probably one to play in short burst rather than plow straight through it as it can get repetitive as you replay sections over and over to get different path endings.

The sailing and ship upgrading is what has me most interested in Windbound, hopefully it'll turn out good. One of these BOTW inspired indies has to end up good at some point right?

I can't believe Tunic isn't out yet. I played a demo of it like 2 or 3 years ago now, must have been much more of a vertical slice than I thought.

12 Minutes was the most interesting / memorable thing to me last E3. I hope it ends up being good.

Some fresh new faces and places join the Spiritfarer adventure, as Stella takes a little trip with Alice, the Hedgehog Spirit! Available in 2020 with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Console, Xbox One, and Windows PC! Spiritfarer is a cozy management game about dying. As ferrymaster to the deceased, build a boat to explore the world, care for your spirit friends, and guide them across mystical seas to finally release them into the afterlife. What will you leave behind?

Also out on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and GOG. Announced for EGS & Stadia today as well.

Spiritfarer looks great, can’t wait to play it (one for Switch for me)

Has anyone heard of this cult anti RPG game called Moon before? It’s coming to Switch 27th August and I don’t know what to make of it

Been playing Windbound the last couple of days, I finally crafted a glider and it is straight up BOTW

The rest of the game surprisingly isn't though. It's very much a survival game, complete with very slow start and frustrating inventory management. Resource gathering and crafting is the core of the gameplay. I'm not a fan of the boringly long timers for cooking food and other fire activities (like making leather). The combat is also pretty shoddy - but it's getting better as the game goes at least.

Building a boat and sailing is definitely my favourite part. The ocean has real depth to it with the swell of waves letting you pass over rocks below or bringing you smashing down into hidden dangers. The boat gets properly rocked about, carried on waves and generally just doesn't stay on course without constant correction, and combined with the micromanagement of sail direction to match the wind it remains engaging. There are these more cinematic bridging sections between the survival stages that have you sailing through a rocky course in a big storm and those are very cool.

The story presentation in those between stages is very Abzu, and comes across a bit expectedly vague in an attempt to be artistic. I'm not really here for the story. The game crashed on me at the end of the second section too, which was annoying as reloading put me back to the start of that section so I basically repeated an hour of gameplay.

Overall I'm enjoying it, but it's hard to recommend unless you're a survival game enthusiast who wants a sailing spin on it. Anyone looking for a BOTW-like will be disappointed.

Hi all, would appreciate some help on this.

PSN have an excellent sale on at the moment, but even with the ShopTo discount on store money, I don't want to get too carried away.

Could you help me pick up to three games off this list to buy? My budget is maybe around £35. I've put some little notes on my thoughts on each.

Spelunky 2 - £12.79 - fairly set on buying this, but not sure if the discount is enough to make the plunge now?
Return of the Obra Dinn - £11.39 - seems to be an unmissable experience, but I don't love logic puzzles...
Kentucky Route Zero - £12.59 - would like to play through this before the end of 2020 so it factors into my game of the year thoughts, but not sure if it would be better on Switch?
Superliminal - £11.89 - love the look of this as a one-and-done playthrough.
Bug Fables - £17.49 - still a little expensive, even with the discount. Feels like the type of game that might eventually be free with PSN?
Far Lone Sails - £5.99 - I have a soft spot for artsy sidescrollers a la Gris/Inside. This could scratch that itch.
Manifold Garden - £11.99 - again, love the art style and concept, but I'm not a huge fan of logic puzzles etc. in practice.
