Julian Gollop's long-awaited (and much-delayed) X-COM spiritual successor Phoenix Point will finally launch on PC next Tuesday, 3rd December.
Free with PC Game Pass, out Q1 2020 for XB1 on Game Pass.
Great news, been waiting for this one for a long time now. The modern XCOM games have been fun but I'm really excited to see what Gollop does with Phoenix Point.
I've had my eye on it for a while too, looks great.
Still an Epic game store exclusive though
Yeah I'll be getting it on Game Pass. I can see why they've gone for Epic Store exclusivity, they're a small studio so a guaranteed payout is probably very tempting.
I don't know that their last game Chaos Reborn sold all that well either so they could do with some stability I imagine.
I bought Chaos Reborn and never actually played it
Crap, I remember the original Chaos on the Spectrum.
Started a replay of Hotline Miami last night on Switch, seems that version has bugs annoyingly. Had 2 instances in different chapters where an enemy teleported from inside the level to the outside where you cannot get to them. This means having to restart entire chapters again which is annoying.
I played through Soul Searching last night on Switch. I was expecting an island-hopping survival game, and I was hoping for one with a relatively wide breadth of mechanics (which the trailer and (lack-of) visuals hinted at). Instead what I got was a highly personal narrative exploring the developer's depression and videogames as escapism. Hotline Miami-esque flashbacks throughout the story unveiled the main characters real world troubles, ones that bled over into the fantasy game world.
Following its completion the game also has several "side stories", and this is where things got very weird (and obviously thrown together with less than no polish or refinement - good games these are not). Framed by the developer himself speaking as a dragon, they were all wildly different vignettes, from side-scrolling platformer to 3D exploration and narrative basketball (a particular highlight). Towards the end of their run the developer appears again to apologise for the increasingly depressive nature of the final stories, explaining how they reflect his changing mental state through the game's development. A return to the gameplay of the main game saw me sailing across islands each representing a part of the developer's life, like his relationship with his mother or an island shaped like the back of his head, populated with characters who all voiced different fears and doubts. I piece together across these stories different impressions of the developer and his inner thoughts, like how his skill in basketball he considers worthless because we live in a world that only values abilities that can be used to make money.
It was nothing if not an interesting game. Being so highly personal I couldn't relate to everything, and there were opinions seemingly expressed that I had to disagree with, but that's preferable to a game not challenging me at all. Fans of experimental and personal art should check it out.
Not Tonight: Take Back Control Edition lauinches this week on Nintendo Switch, this is the game set in a Post-Brexit world (Think it was shown off on an indie Direct last year) and looks really interesting
Not Tonight is a post-Brexit management game, fusing a time-pressure RPG with a politically charged story where every decision matters. Will you join the resistance and fight the regime -- or keep your head down and hope that one day this will all be a distant memory?
Not Tonight: One Love is a full, extra chapter that follows on from the main Not Tonight storyline. King's Head Dave has had just about enough of everything happening in Britain, and has decided to pack up and move to France, in the hope of finding true love.
In an alternative Britain where Brexit talks have collapsed, an extreme far-right government has taken power. Citizens of European heritage have been rounded up and exiled. Forced out of your previous life, you find yourself in the midst of a booming gig economy, fighting to scrape by and return to the city you call home.
•Man the doors of pubs, clubs, festivals and parties, finding work via the BouncR app •Check IDs, manage guestlists, and stop revellers from becoming unruly •Upgrade your apartment, bouncer and equipment to better prepare yourself for the future •Decide what lengths you'll go to in order to survive in a Britain on the verge of collapse
Not sure what other platforms it is coming to, assuming PC/PS4/XBO are a given
I've spent the best part of the day creating a level based on Ocarina of Time in the recently released Hidden Through Time (I'm playing on Switch) - it having a blue ocarina and red ruby in the shape of a rupee as objects made it make a lot of sense! I've been really enjoying the game, and having finished the 26 levels across 4 time periods of the main game I'm now turning to the level editor and online maps for more content. The editor is certainly fiddly, and at times frustrating, but there is plenty of scope within it. It's now up there with the other games with level editors I enjoy on Switch - Mario Maker, Wargroove and Infinite Minigolf

You can share the levels you make online?
Rumour is that this week with see another Nindies presentation, I’m hoping we get a date for What the Golf
Very much inspired by BOTW, this is coming to Switch/PC/XBO/PS4 and I really like the look of it.

Interesting, definitely very BOTW. Hope it reviews better than Pine and Decay of Logos - I had similar interest in both of those but they were apparently not up to scratch
The boat building also gives me a few Oceanhorn/Submerged/Flame in the Flood vibes
