Roblox is gooseberry fool, unless you are in the GTASC then it's a god send.

Well, I'm surprised it took this long for the "you let your kids play that!?" comments to start :slol:

My kids 17 she plays a bit of everything now, she seems to really really like rocket league, she's been playing a lot of Fire emblem and oblivion lattly.

When she was 9 to 11 there was lots of us playing Minecraft and kerbals together and stuff like that.

I had her gaming pretty much straight away though and I think its had a good effect on her for exsmple playing pokemon really really helped her with her reading. I didn't let her play GTA and such till she was 15 , at 15 I decided she was old enough to play pretty much everything and we would talk about stuff... She has had a go on GTA but it never really grabbed her. I think your looking for when they hit the point where they really know the difference between reality and fantasy and when they know what's good and bad for them ( in other words once they know to come off a game and talk to you about it if its upsetting them).

I must have been about 9 when I first played GTA, never did me any harm - I've only stolen 1 or 2 cars in my life.

I agree with this 100%, Sophie has been top of every class since she started school at reading and I put it squarely down to gaming.

Roblox is becoming an obsession. Nothing else will do - the switch might as well be a doorstop (well, except for when we all play smash). All they wanted for Christmas is robux.

Also, sorry for making this political, but as well as playing the game, my 10 and 8 year old boys have started watching videos of other people playing Roblox, particularly this one adult guy who calls himself ‘flamingo’ (pink hair). Not only is he intensely obnoxious (and guilty of teaching my son THE most annoying outburst), but I’ve several times heard him gushingly refer to pewdepie, which I’m keeping an eye on.

I do find myself feeling much more protective over what my kids do games-wise than I think my parents were, or at least that I was aware of them being at the time.

I played all sorts of fairly full on gooseberry fool when I was a kid and didn't think much of it, playing things like Doom, Duke, GTA etc. all way before the "official age limit". Although my parents are far from being luddites I do think they were less aware of what games were like and the actual content of them than I am today, and that was probably generally true for most families 20 years ago.

I want my kids to be tech-savvy and to appreciate that games are a fun pastime in just the same way that other things are, but I also feel a need to be protective of them around games, particularly with the rise of online bullying, lootboxes, YouTube merch gooseberry fool etc.

My 7 year old nephew is really into watching videos of Roblox and Minecraft. Most times I see him now - usually when he's visiting my parents - he seems to be watching youtubers on a tablet.

I don't know how much he actually plays games - he doesn't have a console but he has access to a tablet at home and at his grandparents. For his birthday recently he asked for Roblox toys and we didn't really know what to get him. I know nothing about Roblox to be honest, but some of the posts on here do concern me a bit!

My sister doesn't like to encourage video games and she does restrict the time he's allowed on the tablet, but I don't know how much she follows the particular games or youtubers he's into. Some of the mentions in here do have me a little worried though, not sure if I should bring it up in conversation next time I see them or if I'm being worried for nothing.

The Internet is in some ways a much worse place now than it was when we were kids. There has always been danger for kids online... but now there are AIs uploading disguised gore to YouTube Kids to turn literal infants' fear responses into ad clicks; shadowy political networks targeting fascist propaganda at pre-teens; and mega-corporations trying to psychologically manipulate toddlers into developing gambling addictions. It's dystopian.

My 13 year old likes playing The Sims. She recently convinced her granddad (took about 5 minutes) to upgrade her laptop for her as it is very slow.

My 10 year old loves Fortnite and on hearing her sister was getting a better laptop convinced me (took about 2 minutes) that she should be allowed to have my spare PS4 in her bedroom with a new tele.

They both used to play Disney Infinity, but have since moved on.

I have a 13 year old daughter who loved Zelda Breath of the Wild, and put 120+ hours into it. She also plays Roblox, Minecraft, Overwatch and My Hero Ones Justice.

My 15 year old daughter now claims to hate videogames. She's very studious, but she was obsessed with Uncharted 4 a few years ago, and completed it 8 times!

My kids are becoming increasingly fond of the Switch. My 6-year-old loves Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, my 4-year-old loves playing the Street Fighter Collection (he and his sister just flit between all 12 games), and they play Kirby and Super Smash Bros together. They occasionally dabble in other things but those are the mainstays.

My 3 year old likes to play on an Xbox app called Toddler Box which she refers to as Animal Game.

Leon who’s 7 completed Pokémon Y when he was 4 and it really helped him learn to read better. Now his reading is two years ahead of his class. Although that might be genetics and his brother and I both were the same.

Nope. My daughter insists on playing it with the sound turned down so she can't hear the swear words and she treats it as a city simulator, driving about, decorating cars, buying clothes etc.

My son, however, loves it for what it is but gets that it's just a game. He's the most placid, caring, smart kid you could wish to meet, btw.

Thats cool, was just curious seeing as V in particular is noted for going a bit over the top on occasions.

I'd have major reservations for anyone under the age of 15 playing GTA V's campaign, online is different as you can block pretty much everything, including griefing.
